IRON CAD

Hi Mike

I would like to suggest a new forum. I have downloaded Iron CAD and love what it can do. But I am not yet able to use the programin such a way that I can get it to represent what is in my mind.

Could we have a new forum devoted to CAD with a focus on IRON CAD applicatoin help?

I found it on the web for about $140.00 USD! Did not look much though!

EDIT: That's for version 7 - Version 8 seems to be at least $1000.00USD!

It's pricey. After I downloaded the trial version, an Ironcad representative called me. It's $3500 for Ironcad and $1300 for Innovate (a somewhat scaled-back version, if I remember right it didn't have the sheet metal stuff, 2D drawings, and something else). It's a nice app, though.

A question, not about Ironcad..Sorry..( let's start a CAD section, I'm a real dummy!)....But, anyone know how to set up Visio to show inches and fractions, rather than inches and decimals?? I work with it to do control schematics...not much call for fractions so-far!!

A cad section sounds like an interesting idea. But we might want to focus more on Turbocad.

Turbocad seems to be more affordable, plus we have a resident expert!

What versions of IronCAD have you used?

The current version (10) is prohibitively expensive for a hobbyist but I've seen version 8 on the web for as little as $30. Do you know if these are legitimate licenses? Are they old student licenses?

I don't use IronCAD any more. It has gotten way too expensive. And they won't sell me a student license any more.

So I've switched over to ViaCAD for my modeling. For only $99, I figure I can afford it.

Thanks for the quick response! $99 is certainly doable. I'm downloading the demo now.

I've started doing a little modeling with SketchUp but I don't think it can give me all I want. I want to do a fairly detailed model then pull a lot of information out of it. I'm particularly interested in weight. I want to use the model to help me get axle placement correct.
