Wish I had a tear built during this, could've slept in it instead of a friends house, couldn've used the 12 power too as we had none for about 22 hours.

Yea, it hit us on the west branch of the Susquahanna pretty hard. Thankfully while I live not far from the river, I live a fair height above it. But Ivan did manage to blow a good bit of rain into my TD project, in spite of 4 tarps over it. Least no real lasting harm was done to it tho.

Wow, what a collection of photos... I feel for you. I wouldn't want that mess. But the good news, and yes, there is always good new, is that you now have a real good reason to keep designing and finally build that teardrop. Put a solar panel on top and you'll never be 100% dependent on the grid again. Add a propane furnace, and you have a place to retreat to, even in the dead of winter!!! Just a thought!

We have had a terrible thing happen to us. We had a devastating flood and
lost our home, our 4 vehicles, and all three of our scooters Friday
afternoon. Nothing is salvageable. The cars and scooters were totally
submerged in muddy creek waters. We are attempting to find a temporary
home for us and our 5 kids. We do not have flood insurance to cover the
damages. It doesn't look like homeowners insurance will help. The house
and vehicles were paid for and now we have to start all over. At least we
have jobs.

You can't imagine the outpouring of support and help from our friends and
neighbors. Our family is temporarily split up as we stay with other
family members and try to regroup. We will begin looking for a house to
rent tomorrow to act as a home base while we try to figure out where to go
from here. I will keep in touch with my friends online, but not bore you
with the details. At least we are alive and safe.

It's a shame Lisa's Burgman 400
wasn't even a month old. We will remain positive and work on getting to a
better place soon. I want to thank you all for your friendship and
prayers as we get our lives back in order. So many of you have become
good friends. We will get through this and keep moving forward.

I guess I can't really complain about my inch of water on my car floors...

At least I wasn't parked at the deep end of the lot, I looked in that car and it had water way up to the base of the seat cushion.
A few miles away, along the Deleware River, houses were flooded. So I'm glad I didn't have to deal with that.

Yea, we got it bad all over this area too. But from what I've seen, we were very lucky. In a lot of places, the water stopped just a foot or two shy of doing far more damage. Just one more quarter of an inch of rain, and the damage would have been ten times as bad.

My family was flooded out in '72, and I will never forget what that was like, or what it was like trying to clean up afterward. I feel for everyone that was hit by Ivan.

Its disasters like this that add another function for our campers: Emergency shelters. We can get up and go faster and farther than those with bigger ones can, if we need to get out of an area quick. And if they are equipped right, they can be a reliable place to cook and sleep, when the power fails and homes get cold. Those building them might want to keep that in mind. And those that already have them might want to keep them stocked and ready to go at a moments notice.

Maybe here in Austin I can escape the Hurricanes. Not really because I was visiting my folks and got stuck there during Frances. Anyway when I was living in NC, hurricane Fran came thru. When I woke up the next morning I saw that everyone at my apartment complex had their floormats on the trunk of their cars. I went down to my truck and shure enough, I had 2-3 inches of water on the floorborads. Luckily, I had removed the entire interior of my truck (except for the driver's seat and dash) so that I could install sound deadening. I just popped a plug out of the floor and wiped up the rest with paper towels.

I got lucky on that one.

My grandma lives in an apartment in Williamsport. Did I read on some post you live near there?
Anyway, she had an inch or two of water on her apartment floor there from this same storm. They had been evacuated so she wasn't in the apartment luckily.

I'm about 6 or 7 miles west of Williamsport now, or about halfway to Jersey Shore. I spent most of my life in and around there. Her apartment must be somewhere outside the dike system, as I havent heard of anyone inside the dike system getting a lot of water, tho some low areas did become lakes.

I guess I should say South Williamsport... Does that make a difference? I don't really know the area. Near McDonalds Theres a big pond (very small lake?) along a stream.
