For our 30th anniversary we decided to go check out the Grasslands. Camping here is free dispersed camping, no amenities. There are many miles of hiking trails to discover and multiple ponds and lakes to fish. There is one camp site, Taddra, with outhouse style restrooms but no potable water. Taddra is a pay site and layed out like a primitive State park. Dispersed camping is not close.
We brought our bathroom setup with us, worked great
. Used battery power the entire trip, ended up seeing a 5% drop per day on the battery and that was running the awning lights all night.
It got absolutely pitch black out there but the sky and stars were great. Not as amazing as it is up at our cabin but still way better than our fulltime home near Dallas. The place seemed very popular with the overland crowd.
The camper performed well, we grilled up prime NY strip steak with a broccoli and cauliflower medley for dinner on our anniversary with a maple sausage, hashbrown, egg fry with homemade toast for breakfast the next morning. . There was a burn ban so no camp fire,, that was a bummer but I carry a couple of simulated led tiki torches in the camper so those filled the gap.
We explored an old cemetery near by, pretty cool. Some sad stories told there. Some of the Graves were from the early 1800s.
Going back!
