Mattress Removal

Hey, I’m trying to figure out how to remove a full-size mattress from my 2007 little guy five wide teardrop camper.
The mattress was in place before I purchased it and where the galley hatch is they have created a built-in wall, which is not able to be removed. Therefore, there is not room to slide the mattress out
So short of cutting the mattress apart and removing it in pieces, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Our foam mattress is in 2 parts which is removable.
I suggest you get an electric carving knife , draw a straight line in the middle of the longest length and cut it there, if it’s foam.

Thanks everybody. I’m gonna try the ratchet straps and rolling it first and then I’ll have to get a saws all because I think it has some wiring in it. Unfortunately it’s not foam. It’s a regular queen size mattress.

and then I’ll have to get a saws all because I think it has some wiring in it.

I've got a shop full of tools, including a couple of sawsalls. If it were me, I'd probably have a go at it with my short bolt cutters first. Maybe even side cutters, depending on wire thickness. Things could get somewhat cowboy with a sawsall.

But good luck with this endeavor.

That mattress, by the way, is 5" of medium-density foam with 3" of memory foam bonded to it. It's dreamy.

Yeah, you might be able to scissor cut the fabric and foam batting away from the corners in the middle of the mattress and just cut the main steel hoops there. I wouldn't be surprised if that allows you to fold the mattress in half even if there are smaller metal wires connecting the springs inside. Might be able to avoid a big mess this way, and worth trying first.

Another thought to avoid is that the wire hoops are probably some type of spring steel, so maybe relatively hard material. A saw-z-all, jigsaw or cutoff wheel might create enough heat and/or sparks to light the mattress on fire... which would be really bad with it still in your camper. If you resort to this, please keep water or extinguisher at hand. Just saying.

We have been through a number of mattresses including a Firm Foam from Foam Factory. My wife after 10 years decided it was too firm and I found a used queen Sleep Number mattress with a bad pump and one chamber that leaks. Our bed at how was the one that predated SL and is now 30+ years old. She is happy...
