Thanks, I slowed down on that for a day or two while I got the heater in. I'll finish hopefully making it not look quite so hideous when I get on the road. I'm planning to head to Quartzsite this year, so I'll have some time and space.

I confess it's ugly, but it at least seems to power up and act like it's doing the right thing. 8000 BTU diesel heater inside that steel box.


It's vented near the bed area and the return is in the nose. along with the controller. Everything else is contained outside.

It's been a while since I've posted, I guess, but there's been a handful of changes. I really do need to stay in that ladder. I should do that today.

There is a black pipe bar that goes across the bed frame and the ladder fits into it now. When not in use, the ladder hangs from that bar out of the way. It at least holds the ship ladder stable now, which is nice. I had been wedging it between the OSB and 2x4 frame

Oh yeah, there was a scary change that wasn't small. Cutting a 14 inch hole in the roof.

Reversible maxx-air fan is now directly over the kitchen area. It's framed in to match with stained 1x3

Once I got that curtain area shutting off the storage and the dresser underneath the bed, there was just room enough to put my little fake fireplace in. I don't plan on using it for heat, but the flickering fake flames will be nice.

It's just place holding here. I'm going to build a faux hearth for it. That'll raise it up and give it a little more presence.

I was really happy when I discovered I'd be able to fish that old thing out of the garage and use it. Feels like it should be in here.

Oh hey look, it's almost real. There's food in the pantry!

Okay, sort of food, but we have a plan for that.

There's also a plan for the fugly fridge. I'm going to wrap it in rose gold vinyl for the moment, but as I collect stickers on the road, I will cover it like a steamer trunk.

Most fugly stuff is being hidden behind Shoji screens, I like that air conditioner, but it just wasn't practical with where the fridge was.

Now that all the furniture is in, I really need to go weigh the tongue again too. This trailer is really right on the edge of being a lot for my truck.

I have a diesel heater that works very well for me.

However, the white plastic fuel tank, like the one you have, is notorious for failing after a relatively short period of time, especially if exposed to sunlight and/or vibrations.

You might want to Google the question: “are the standard fuel tanks that come with a typical Chinese diesel heater notorious for failures?”.

I've been a little concerned about the likely lack of UV resistance of that thing. I am more than pleased to take suggestions for replacement tanks. Please and thank you? @featherliteCT1

I use the $70 Harbor Freight 5 gallon metal jerry can. However, I replace the fragile gas cap with the replacement cap depicted below (the caps are available in different colors) from Amazon.

On the other hand, I have read that the RotopaX plastic container is a good choice … but I have never used one. Available on Amazon … a bit pricey … but with standard Amazon 30 day return policy. They also come in 2 gallon size. Again, I would replace the fragile cap.

So are you drilling in the feed nipple or how are you feeding fuel from it

I'd be inclined to go get an actual jerry can from a surplus place.

Like this $9 metal fuel standpipe, cut to proper length. I drilled a hole in my plastic fuel cap instead of drilling a hole in the metal jerry can itself. I have one unmodified cap I use when traveling with a plastic stopper cap on the fuel line running to the heater. Then switch to the modified cap and reconnect the fuel line to the standpipe when I want to fire up the heater.

However I think most people drill a hole in the metal can.

Pretty sure red can is color coded for gasoline and yellow is color code for diesel. Might want to research this before purchasing. Just saying.

Maybe yellow is kerosene and green is diesel, I don't remember, but rotary molded plastic cans should also include permanent molded in labels for fuel type. Research needed.

Yes, OSHA requires yellow cans for diesel stored in work places.
