Outstanding! You're going back in time about 150 years there, but with modern technology. The very first motorcycles came about after bicycles transitioned away from the high-wheel type to two similar sized wheels with chain drive. Some guy decided he didn't want to pedal up the hill back home after a long hard day at work and strapped a tiny steam engine to the frame.

Find the story of "The George Wyman Memorial Ride" I forget his name be he retraced Wyman's first motorcycle ride across the country. Might get some hints or make you question your sanity.

My first thought was to pull a bicycle trailer, a good one, not the pet carrier type. But my experience with flats tells me bicycle trailers get flats, lots of flats, same with the bicycle. But the bike tires roll easily, less resistance than the small 4.80 x 8 trailer tires. A decent 2 man tent that pops up with camping gear and you are on the road.

Here is an article that you might want to look at. It seems that in Georgia, any bicycle with motor assist over 1 hp and that can go over 20 mph is considered a moped and riders must have insurance, registration, and a moped license to operate that vehicle in their state.

Those rules seem to be excessive to me, but it seems several states have similar rules for motor assist bikes. While planing your trip, you probably should look to see what the states you're going to visit require.

I know of one other person that drove cross country with that motor. He was riding with other people so he took it slow, not full throttle.
