I am placing this trip here since I know that there are a few TNTTT members that don't follow me on my other platforms. This trip, for me, is a long highway trip to northern Utah, but for others in eastern Idaho and Utah it would be much closer. If interested let me know, we can plan a place to meet. This trip will cover a lot of dirt roads (which could be muddy this time of year) so take that into consideration if you do plan to join us.

Newfoundland
April 4-8, 2022
Time: 8:00 am
Meet Place: TA Travel Center, 4115 Broadway Ave, Boise, ID 83705
Destination: Northern Utah
Estimated Duration: 5 days
Estimated Distance: 800 miles, Boise to Boise
Comms Channels: HAM=146.480, GRMS=17, CB=13
Zello Channel (phone app): SW Idaho Overlanding and 4x4

SW Idaho Overlanding is heading to Newfoundland! Not the country, but a place in Utah. This trip will be 5 full days of adventure. Plenty of dirt roads, rock formations, old mining camps, abandoned railroad trestles.

This area is remote so bring plenty of fuel. It could be nearly 300 miles between good known fuel stops. There is one other fuel stop that could shave 40 miles but, prepare for the worst.

Road conditions could be iffy this time of year. This area is not recommended to drive in if it has rained withing 48 hours. Also, not recommended if rain is expected while in the area. This can be evaluated as time gets closer.

This is not a guided tour and all who attend are ultimately responsible for their own safety. I am not responsible for damage, injury and or death. You partake under your own free will knowing the dangers of such activities.

Yes, that is the destination.

We've had a few storms the last 2 weeks and looks like possible rain Tuesday.
Spent last weekend doing snow recoveries on the mountain up here .
Even getting stuck myself.
Was able to get some more recovery gear with the tips I received.

I have been watching the weather in Wendover, Ut and it looks pretty clear for the week as far as rain anyway. Only showing 4% for Tuesday. Looks like a bit of wind on Monday and Tuesday. Rest of the week looks pretty good.

Are you still coming in Wednesday?

Still planning on it. I'll probably try to contact ya via text or GMRS when I hit the railroad track road that morning.

Thanks George for setting this trip up.
Had a great time seeing interesting area of Utah that is seldom visited.
Cheyenne had a great time running around and playing with Iroh, even though it took a bit for the dogs to get used to each other.

Now for the :pictures:

I came in from the south of I-80. The route takes you on part of the Lucin Cut-off. Just happened to get this great picture of a fright train heading east. Meet George at the north end of the New Foundland rage and headed to camp

Camp was in the Sleigh valley and if you look close you might see camp in the middle of the picture

Thanks to all who came along for the adventure. It was a great time. Hope to get the video out in the next couple of months.

While we we're all talking on the radio a app was mentioned to use for ham license, I couldn't remember the name.

Classes here are down in provo. If I could do it online would be great.
