Hey everyone. I'm planning on building a foamie on a old pop up frame I acquired. The plan is to build the foamie standy separate from the frame (which has plywood deck),encapsulate foamie in PMF, then attach to deck. I plan on 1/2 inch plywood floor inside the foamie and run carriage bolts thru plywood deck and trailer frame. I have a large heated shop with 9ft door and lots of room to roll the camper. Your suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Just make sure when you cover the cabin, to run the canvas from the sides around and under the floor at least a few inches. That is an important part of keeping the foam walls attached to the floor.

No real issues with your plan.
My build is about 5.5, x 5 x 12 ft. I used the same approach as you.

Only issue to be aware of is the weight of the body. It will likely be too much to move be yourself. I usually use a floor jack and blocks to lift the body on/off the frame.

Thanks. Nice build. I'm anxious to get started. I think I'll make some 4 wheel dollies to help move it around.

One thing i forgot to ask about....
Has anyone put an awning on a standy foamie? I have a 10ft awning we used on my suburban for camping, and want to put it on the camper. Is it enough to inlay 1x4 on inside and out of wall under PMF and bolt the awning thru the wall? Or do I need to make the awning removable and store it while moving?

Inlay only 1/2" ply plates or thinner. 3/4" won't leave enough foam between the plates to hold.

You also need to prevent the bolts from crushing the foam as they are tightened. You can build an "H" beam or drill holes in wood dowels for the bolts and glue those into holes drilled through both plates. The advantage is you don't need to know *exactly* where the hole needs to be before you mount the plates.

I think that is a great idea. Thank you. Glad I ask the question. Hoping to start the build soon. Gathering info and parts.
