Hello fellow builders:

I am building a TD based on Tony Latham's book. The design for the trailer chassis shows an alternative for adding a coupler to make the hitch removable.
Does anyone know the part number for the coupler? Also, are there any dimensions about how much of the coupler needs to be engaged by the trailer tongue?

Thanks in advance.

Seems to me that you could do it with over-the-counter pieces. Harbor Freight sells a female receiver that you could weld onto the tongue, and then you could get an insert for the receiver that you could bolt a 1-7/8" or 2" coupler onto. That would give you a removable coupler utilizing standard trailer tongue/coupler components. (I would recommend locking hitch pins as a security measure.)

I'm sorry to hear of this calamity.

I think you're asking about one of these:

Or perhaps this?

Make sure you leave enough room for one of these or it may rattle a bit:

Don't be shy with the questions. It's a journey.
