Electrolysis is the way to go Slow. You can make your own bath, cheap and easy. Just make sure you use Arm N Hammer Washing soda, in the yellow box. NOT laundry soap.

I scrub with rock salt and vinegar. Scrub and rinse, scrub and rinse, scrub and rinse. It the water you are rinsing with is still black repeat yet again. Once the rinse is clear your pan should be ready for a soap and water bath a good rinse and a thorough drying over heat to get the water out of the pores and then season as you wish.

or fill w/ el cheapo vinegar and let stand for 24-48 hours

rinse

wash

fry 3 batches(skillet full of oil) of potatoes which will get the iron hot enough to accept the oil into the pores

something about potatoes that draws the ferous flavour from the skillet as you cure it

I have heard that cast iron that has been sand blasted doesn't hold seasoning.

Hmmm. That's interesting. I'm not a member of Mensa, but I see no reason that would be so. Either way, I've been meaning to whip up an electrolysis setup, and this gives me one more reason to get busy and do it.
