Setting exact measurements in Sketch Up.

I'm very very new to this CAD stuff, down loaded Sketch up, trying to draw a basic rectangle to start but can't figure out how to get exact measurements in. It will let me drag out a rectangle but I'm finding it impossible to get the length and height I want. Am I using the incorrect template?

I'm sure this will be an ongoing thread with my questions as I learn

Scott, if you use the "Product Desing and Woodworking - inches" template then use the rectangle tool and start to draw a rectangle. Just type 15",18" as an example and it will finish the rectangle to those demensions.

Kerry is right that's just what I found out when you start dragging your rectangle then type in the measurements you want with a coma separating the length from the width such as 42",6'4" instead of typing 42"x6'4"

I was trying to type it in the lower right corner and it wouldn't let me.

Then you can use the push pull feature to make it the height you want and again when you start to pull just start typing in the number you want and it will go there automatically.

This is 43"x 7" 6'2" length floor space 3'9" tall

I give you the Tiny Grumman, needs a lot of work on the cad

Now I need to get a floor in it and round of the ends a bit

What's the dimensions on a 13" tire HF trailer?

Don't know about the 13"; but if it helps, I just went outside and measured my 12"-ers. 20 1/2 " across.

In case you haven't come across it yet.... when you draw a circle or an arc, type in a number followed by S after you complete it. ex. 16S, 36S or (my favorite) 72S. It breaks the curve into more segments and makes a smoother looking curve. You only have to type it once per drawing, it remembers after that and does it automatically.

That will help a lot thanks, I just went to the HF site and the 40 1/2"x48" does have 12" wheels I was thinking it was 13".

I like the look of yours, guess mine won't be so original.
My plans are for something for the twins to sleep in while the wife and I have the giant tear. Oh and for me to take when I go camping in Jan.

When drawing a square, rectangle, line, etc - to get an exact measurement (no matter what template you use) you need, do the following: immediately upon drawing the simple object, type in the dimensions separated by comma and it will appear in the lower dimensions rectangle area and the object will become that size!

If you need a ready drawn "to scale" version of that particular trailer, you can get one from Sketchup Models. It's the little cardboard box thingy with the down arrow at the right side of the menu bar. I uploaded one there a while ago for just this purpose. In the Search box, type Harbor Freight Trailer and you can import the model to your drawing.

What's the dimensions on a 13" tire HF trailer?

Here is Carlisle's tyre (sorry, 'tire') website:

Each tire has a table giving the dimensions of each size - and you'll see that there's quite a difference between their different 'ranges' of tire of the same size, which shows you that a particular tire size won't always have the same dimensions!

Using the drop down menus in Sketchup...
"File"
"Export"
"2D Graphic" and save in a location and format that you choose.
After that, it's just like posting any other picture here.
