Hi Everyone - I'm looking to purchase a small RV that is under 2000lbs. I have a Kia Sportage Hybrid. Any suggestions? I'm not new to RVing. Me and my husband had a 36' Grand Design Solitude but had to sell my setup when he passed 5 years ago. I'm itching to get back out so I've been solo tent camping.

There are a number of lightweight teardrop and squaredrop trailers builders out there. I replaced my popup truck camper with a Timberleaf Pika that weighs about 1350 pounds dry. Most of the heavy stuff goes in the tow vehicle. If I had configured it for normal highway travel, it might have been 2-300 pounds lighter.

If you like fixing up things, there are still U-Haul & Burro campers. We had a 13' [overall length] U-Haul CT-13, made in 85?, that we camped out of for quite a while. Weight between 1200-1300lbs, so towable with lots of things. Obviously catches more wind than a lower teardrop.

As others have mentioned, there a a good number of options in the 1300-1800 pound range. A lot of it will depend on what your looking for as far as price, size, features, off road ability, etc.

I have a Sportage Hybrid that will be my TV. If I were buying, I had pretty much settled on Hiker Trailer. Bend Teardrop, and Runaway Campers were also high on my list.

Keep in mind the Sportage is rated for 2000# only with trailer brakes, it's 1350# I think without brakes. I'm building my own for a bit of cost savings and to try and keep the weight closer to 1000# dry weight.

Check out the High Camp Teardrop. We pull ours with our Kia Sorrento easily. It's perfect for 1 person.
