small deep freeze

Does anyone have a small deep freeze in use? I've been looking at 3.0 cu foot freezers, the propane ones are prohibitively expensive and I'd have to deal with fumes if left inside our camper [outside grizzly bears would have fun], so considering one that could run off a small generator when internal temps start to rise. Or perhaps even use an inverter and use the truck as a generator. I already have a fridge/freezer installed, but the freezer part is pretty tiny.

I have space to mount one inside of our camper [can see unit in foamie section] but wondering how they disperse heat? Could you add additional foam on sides that don't get used to disperse the heat? so it would keep things frozen for a longer period of time?

Sometimes we are out for several weeks and I am getting tired of losing meats when the ice chests don't stay cold enough.

There are many 12V fridges now that can be set to just freezer. My 53Q can be split fridge / freezer, all fridge, or all freezer for under $400.

I was looking at these, and thinking it had enough space for a couple of frozen milk jugs, and if I encased it [built it in] in 2" styro on all sides but the back [assuming that is where it dumps the heat] that is should keep things frozen for quite some time and minimize the amount of time we would have to run it on a generator. https://www.amazon.ca/KOTEK-Reversible- ... tdGY&psc=1

Tim, I think you had mentioned that you do a fair bit of boondocking when camping. How do you find the size of your K18, sufficient for a couple of weeks boondocking..? I'm in the market for a 12v/110v frig/freezer and am debating on which to get. Space wise my teardrop has room for either the K18 or the G22 and the price difference isn't that great. The way the K18 is setup, it's either used as a freezer or frig but not both at the same time. Meaning if I wanted to keep a few steaks frozen inside then I couldn't put lettuce in at the same time or else it would freeze..? I saw a few other frig/freezers online that had a separator panel isolating both compartments but size wise they'd be too big for my space. My space limitations are 14 D x 26 L x 14 H..

On another note, it shows as having an ice cube tray on one side, Is this removable or fixed..? Seems like a waste of space if fixed, would be nice if it could be removed if not needed..

Overall you're quite happy with it's performance, no regrets or drawbacks..?

The K18 is a small unit. I don't boondock quite that long. Usually just three or four days. I also have a Alpicool 35L. Considerably larger but does the same thing. Freezer or Fridge, not both at same time.

Though I have found that the lower level of either fridge will hold something frozen while the top and separate sections keep things a bit warmer. The small cubbie you see in those two models is for things like eggs, lettuce, cheese, etc. Things you want to stay chilled but not quite as cold as the main compartment. Not sure what you mean by the ice cube section. I don't have anything like that in my fridges. For either fridge the temperature setting is "variable" depending on ambient temperature. If you are camping in cool weather I keep the unit at a higher temp setting. Mostly I camp between 50 and 80 degrees F.

I have used both on some big family trips. I'll occasionally use the K18 on freezer mode to keep ice cream or other frozen foods and use the 35L for chilling other foods.
