SW Idaho Overlanding Adventures

@ghcoe, have you ever done a trip to Thompson Hole in Caribou-Targhee NF? Trailsoffroad gives a difficult rating at the very end of the road to it. Looks like a beautiful and loud place to visit.

No, I don't get over that far very often. About as far east as I get is American Falls. Not to say I would not like to, but it is a day just to get there and a day back. Cuts into the trail time and time off that I have. Looks interesting though.

Cool. I'm looking at it as part of a Tetons trip. But it's still ~2 hours from the western-most place we plan on camping. We'll see...

Mordor V11.0
Jun 5-8 (Friday 5-Monday 8)
Time: 10:00am
Meet Place: On The Run Travel Center 10026 S Eisenman Rd, Boise, ID 83716
Destination: Snake River Plain
Estimated Duration: 4 days
Estimated Distance: 238 miles (From Boise to our camping location)
Comms Channels: GRMS=17, CB=13

There is 4+ hours of driving time to get to base camp.
This trip is a base camp type trip. We will set up camp on Friday and go out exploring Saturday and Sunday. The area we are camping at is worth exploring too if you have not been there before.

Day 1: I plan to visit a few places I have been before. A cave and a place that is marked as a cave but is different.
Day 2: I am planning a trip out to visit some sites I have not been to before. Another cave and some ruins and just follow some desert trails during the hot part of the day.

Most roads should be doable with stock 4x4 vehicles. Good tires are recommended since some areas have lava rock outcroppings. Small lift could be beneficial.
Road to base camp is pretty good travel for trailers.

This is not a guided tour and all who attend are ultimately responsible for their own safety. I am not responsible for damage, injury and or death. You partake under your own free will knowing the dangers of such activities.

Update for this trip. Meetup locations and times have been updated for those who want to join in the fun but live east of Boise or don't want to travel at 65-70mph from Boise. Hope to see you there!

Dayville. The Hard Way
Jun 26-28 (Friday 26-Sunday28)
Time: 8:00am
Meet Place: Sinclair Gas Station, 151 Smith St N, Vale, OR 97918
Destination: Central Oregon
Estimated Duration: 3 days
Estimated Distance: 336 Vale, Or to Vale, Or (Half the miles are return highway miles)
Comms Channels: GRMS=17, CB=13

Have you ever been to Dayville, Oregon the hard way? Me neither! Well, we will attempt to get to Dayville a different way.

What to expect? I don't really know. Should be pretty straight forward well-maintained dirt and paved roads though. Maybe a short section of rougher stuff but we won't know how rough, if at all, till we get there. I would assume stock vehicles will be fine. We can always reroute if needed.

This area is a area I have been wanting to get into deeper than just highway views. Lots of private property so that is why it is mostly good, maintained roads. Sometimes we need just need a easy trip. I allowed 3 days but in might only be two long days or jump off where you want. This is also the last trip before shutting down for the hot part of the year.

This is not a guided tour and all who attend are ultimately responsible for their own safety. I am not responsible for damage, injury and or death. You partake under your own free will knowing the dangers of such activities.
