Looking for feedback on covers. Have ordered our TD and planning on keeping it in the shop but I want a good cover. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

As I was building my teardrop, I realized I didn't have an indoor place to store it while I was working on it.
SO...
I went to harbor Freight and got a big poly tarp (a silver one) and draped it over that. Then I realized my trailer wasn't much more than a shaped box, and I know how to wrap a Christmas present so I started forming it to fit the trailer.
I then thought I could trim off the excess, so with my trusty Harbor Freight scissors, (hey, they came free with the purchase of the tarp..) and a roll of duct tape, I made a cover that fits like a glove!
I replaced the cheap duct tape with good gorilla tape, reinforcing the corner points.

I'm sure you could do about the same thing. it might last all of 2 or 3 seasons, but once you've made the first one, it's easy.

and if it works, it's NOT stupid.

Sounds like you made a nice cover.
I wonder about condensation since a tarp doesn't breathe like manufactured covers.
In the past others made a wood box frame to sit on the roof under the cover for air circulation.
That might be a consideration in your case.
:D Danny

You could always build some spacers for between the td and tarp. That would allow air to circulate.

My next step is to convert some cartop rails for the TD. eventually I want to be able to carry a canoe/kayak, so that should hold it 'loose'. but by then I'll need to make a new one so....

Costco usually has 3 different sizes of car covers and I have found the small one that fits my GEO Metro also fits my 4x8 tear with a bit of room to spare(would probably fit a 5x8 also) a lot of times, when leaving on the teardrop trip - I just lift it off the tear and cover the Metro when leaving

I know this is an old thread. But figured I would add my two cents for those still searching covers. After writing the below post, I noticed that someone was thinking about the same covers. This should give some insight into the product in actual use.

I have one of these (http://a.co/0rZChxp-The Up to 8' size) for my typically shaped 5x8 teardrop (the sides fit one a 4x8 sheet of plywood, for reference). Its just snug on mine on height. It could use a 1-inch hem along the bottom and it would be a perfect fit. It was close enough that I didn't want to return it. If I needed to replace I will likely go one size up. I have to store mine tear outside on a semi-shaded lot and after a year and a typical Virginia winter, it still looks like new. It even held up nice through some high wind situations. No complaints at all.

Happy camping.

have been using the same brand of cover "Mucubberley" just showed here and so far it seems to be doing great!!(even under the 10 inches of snow it has on it right now) The brand name is 'Classic Accessories' they have 3 sizes to choose from in their 'Polypro 3 Teardrop Trailer Cover' group of covers - the one I got is the 8 - 10 foot one (Model 2 #01-0897) and covers everything to include my tongue box, (my trailer is a Benroy shaped 5x8) it has 2 zippered opening's - one for the passage side door and the other for the rear hatch. The list $$ on this was $126 but was able to get it on Amazon for $70. On one of the other forum opening's on this subject, Tony Latham showed a pic of this same one I have now, along with stating he has been using it for years now..... hoping mine holds as well..........so far-so good

(only about 2 inches of the snow in this picture on 4Feb)

up to 9 inches now in this one today..........

Teardrop cover up-date : today when I walked outside, I glanced over to the parked teardrop and saw something that didn't look right = the top of the cover had opened up at the roof-vent area. Is now ++ two years old and the 'paper' material used in it's construction had just fallen apart from weathering. (have seen this happen before in some of the low $$'ed car covers I have bought over the years) It had come with a 3 year 'supposed' factory warranty when new, but since I used it for about "twice" as long this year as last (being it has been sitting all of this year so far covered due to this "epidemic" = NO camping yet!) am not going to bother with the "warranty hazel" = it has served it's purpose and is being replaced with a "supposedly" better made one - more$$$ one - when it gets here. What I paid $68 for two years ago is now $79 on Amazon - so this time, I went ahead and paid the $112 for the "better" made one with the 'Lifetime' Warranty = we'll see? ..... in due time

I saw something on Facebook where they are selling old billboard vinyl to cover all sorts of things. Made to last in all kinds of weather, t might be better than average tarps.
My teardrop and vintage trailers both have new homes so I just offer suggestions with no actual testing. :?
