I didn't know where to go !

Cargo Trailer section ? Trailer build section ? NAH !

Tiny houses section seemed more appropriate.

We have discussed let in wind bracing here ! I have a vertical studded building so it is more a house than a composite sandwich trailer so here I are

After camping with Jeff (Nitrox junkie) I became somewhat jealous of all the cube in his cargo and being able to walk into a trailer instead of crawl. It truely amazes me that this trailer is exactly the same length and 3 " narrower than "Chubby" and yet it seems so damn big.

Started Sat at 8:30 with a flat bed trailer and a saws-all and by Sunday evening I was here.

I have built some 100 - 150 mini barns so I am not in unplowed territory.

I did however have to make some provisions for wind shear at 65 mph so let in wind bracing was an absolute must.

Thats my buddy Mark taking a much needed break. He worked as my gopher all day Sat and Sun.

Please note I am using the same garage I built Chubby in :rofl2:

Yep back in the driveway again and my neighbors have all been over to look and offer suggestions.

Here is an end shot where the doors will be. I put up the metal cabinets to get a sense of how big I can go I am on the hunt for some nice wood wall cabinets now 36 wide by 24 tall. Gonna stack them in the nose where these are. There will be 2 layers of 3/4 foam over the black goop and then a 1/2 osb or plywood sub floor and vinyl according to old what's her name. Walls and ceiling will have 3 layers of 3/4 foam except where the lexan see thru roof is at the very top . Yep SHE said so !

Galley door will be on the left and the walk in door will be on the right.
I will stub in a 30 " wide wall floor to ceiling taking up exactly 1/2 of the left side. A 15" tall by 27" long wall cabinet will be on the floor. and a second mounted to this wall . A let down counter will be mounted on the left door. We have talked about 2 matching medicine cabinets being mounted on the galley door for spices and smaller items.
I left the rails over the fenders and the angle looks to be a great support for an air conditioner. Thinking about a faux feed box over the wheels to house the a/c on curb side and a matching storage box on the other. I am trying to scale down a 20 x 40 foot barn so 1/4 scale is what I am working with. The ideas of Miniture barn lite windows and a faux sliding door or 2 all built to scale have been bounced around.

This WILL be campable by July 31st for Chain O Lakes OR ELSE ! :?

Looks like you're going to show us how the barn builders do it!
This 5x10' build is gonna be fun to watch! :applause:

You're making fast progress. That deck floor sure is shiny....Is it black or dark green?

Sharon :

That is that nasty gooey fence post and foundation coating. I will be putting 2 layers of foam and a 1/2 osb or plywood sub floor over it.

And yes its black black black and skins over like glass in areas. I think it will hold up well. I am trying to do all the things I neglected to do with " Chubby" and proper undercoating was one of them. While it was upside down getting it new longer tongue I put 3 coats on the underside. The inside just got 1 real heavy one.

Where's the hay?? Looks like a good start

Have you been talking to my wife ? She noticed the little area above the test cabinets and suggested a hay mow complete with mini bales and a stuffed chicken or two.

Lord help me ! :worship:

At what point does a theme become an obsession

I think you answered your own question

We need more pics... What did you get done today, for example?

Mike...

why are you doing the foam and a subfloor? couldn't you just use the floor that you have? seems like it just takes up space, and adds weight?

i know i'm probably missing something really easy here...

(looks awesome by the way!)

Existing cargo trailer floor had gaps. Now it has stickey goop on it. I caulked all seams and placed the foam down to insulate and for sound deadning. The boards are not as level as they appear in the picture and the 2 foot missing in the nose (see pics above) that I just installed had to plane out. The frame stands proud about 3/16 of an inch above the floor. By using the foam it will compress and help to level these areas. This eliminates the telegraphing of the highs and lows of the existing floor and frame. That and there are several dumb Hoosiers that try to be the 1st out camping for the year those January shivarees get damn cold!
Ever had your coffee freeze in the cup WHILE you are drinking it?

Nuff Said ????

Every joint everywhere is screwed and glued. Sideing and roof sheating is also glued I will be useing 24" aluminum coil stock (white on one side dark brown on the other) for the final roof. Now for the important questions do I leave it natural with a brown roof or do I do the little red barn with white trim and a white roof. The T-111 holds up well in the weather and it will be sealed with several coats of deck sealer if it is left natural ! I never even concidered it until I saw the pictures with the brown tarp.

Opinions please

I need a shower and a snooze been at it since noon it is now pushing 10 PM :BE

It will be campable for Chain O Lakes July 31st

thanks for the explanation of the floor thing. makes sense.

i vote for red barn with white trim.

looking good!

UPDATE !

Not having much time during the week I rely heavily on my weekends to make progress so Sat and Sun were blitz build days. Roof sheeting is complete all t-111 siding is on and sealed. Some of the trim is even temporarly installed on the nose will remove to paint and reinstall permanently. Electrical boxes are mounted and wire is just pulled into the boxes. One of the back doors is swinging
( barely ) and a large front storage cabinet is mounted to the front wall.
2 layers of 3/4 blue foam is on the floor just waiting for the subfloor to be installed over it. Lots of beer and a lot of galley mock-ups. A few lively discussions with ol what's her name about the galley layout and what we can and can't do.
I will give her full credit the rear driverside door will open 180 degrees from its closed position and she devised a fold down table built by utilizing a large cabinet door I had laying around. This door will be hinged at the bottom and when lowered will become the cook top table. This door will be mounted to a shallow box frame that will do a couple of things 1st it will act as a strongback to stiffen the 3/8 T-111 door and secondly it will seal the box during transport. In this box will be all the 3" or less bottles and small items in easy reach. Think of it as a combo spice cabinet and medicine cabinet.

Unanswered questions ...... Type of paneling appropriate to a "barn" ?
Type of light fixtures ? almost need to be flush as it is a "slouchy"
( that's a standie you can't quite stand up in) Well at least one of us can't! Type of floor covering as it will see foot traffic not knees like the teardrop. Flip down dual twin beds mounted to the sidewall or an air bed that can be stowed in the front cabinet. I know pictures pictures I will snap a few monday night and get them posted. I am getting antsy to take it around the block and see how it pulls.I know this one WILL get a tongue jack it is all I can do to lift the tongue off of the ground I am hopeing it is just nose heavy. Well it's 3 am and the dog is back in and I gotta get up in 2 1/2 hours better get a little shut eye.

Me too! (Subtle barn red, not red-red.)

When people see that coming down the road, they're going to think you're moving a shed on a trailer. But people in campgrounds will know what it is and you'll be giving tours of your barn every time you camp! Hwy Patrol may stop you to take a look, too. You could use it to advertise your barn-building skills. Just put a sign in the window when you're on the road!

Being a slouchy ( that's a standie you can't quite stand up in) I was looking for low profile lights for the ceiling. I found these on e bay and ordered 4 of them. They were less than 6 dollars a piece with shipping. I couldn't buy the bulbs and switches for that ! I like the 3 watt night light feature combined with 2 aimable 10 watt spot reading lamps. This build I am going with all 12 volt lighting and powering up with a 12 volt power supply ( yard sale find) or the on board battery.
