II have the trailer done and the fiberglass pod almost ready for primer and bedliner on the outside. now I need to figure out what to use for the interior paneling. I have thought about this subject for months and am no closer to a solution.
I really don't want to use wood products but can't find anything I like other than like a thin plywood that would look right in the interior.
I like the simplicity of a thin FRP but it is heavy and won't look smooth layed over the fiberglass work inside. Do to the layering of glass it is a bit wavey, I have feathered the layering ridges out pretty well but it isn't acceptable as a finished surface, and am not excited about trying to make it glass flat on the inside just to put FRP on.
Revolution plywood (less than 1/4" thick) will span irregularities a bit better.
I want a light color (white?) to make it brighter and be more efficient with lighting after dark.
I like the smooth look and easy to clean surface of a white Melamine (countertop type material) but it usually comes on either Masonite or particle board used as a backer.
So my wish list is..
1)_ White to reflect light better and not feel like a cave.
2)No wood= no rot issue....ever, for any reason.
3)Keep it light weight as this is an off road camper and the lighter the easier to pull over obstacles.
4)Longevity and durability.
5)Want it to look like a professional built camper not a thrown together home built one...even though it is home built. No waves/irregularities or mismatched materials that don't look well together.
Simplest would be to use a industrial paint right over the glass (epoxy primer first) but would look horrible due to glass layering waves/ridges.
As of now I'm thinking I'm going to have to use the Revolution ply with a high quality white paint for the ceiling and light stain on the walls...or paint also....just not keen paint.
What have you all done for interiors?
Thanks
Darrell
