What did you do today

Oops, I should have been more clear. I ordered your teardrop book. But I love a good mystery, so I probably won't be able to resist....

Well, for a mystery, you might take a look at my three-book series, Five Fingers, Seven Dead Fish, and Nine Cigarettes. They are similar to C.J. Box's Joe Pickett series and get great reviews.

A Cas So Cold is non-fiction, true crime.

But holler when you have questions about my teardrop book.

Yes. I enjoyed A Case So Cold. It's more of a report on the murder and recent (surprising) events than a mystery, per se. That may make it sound less interesting (which is why I didn't say it that way in the Amazon review), but I think it makes it better; more interesting.

We are well into autumn now. The temperatures have dropped considerably, but not so much that the blue swimmer crabs have departed.
But winter is definitely on the way. The temperature maxed out at a glorious 77F today, and I've actually put a light blanket on the bed.
The missus went to the Reject Shop today. It's sorta of like a dollar shop, I'm guessing.
They had dog coats on sale. She got a couple of the XL ones for Thumper. She put one on him to test for fit. Now he won't hold still for her to take it off. :D

What's your winter like? Temps? Do you ever get snow?

Tony
Most winters, in my area, the overnight temperatures will fall to somewhere near freezing. Rarely, it will drop into minus territory, maybe -1 or -2C.
We will get the occasional overnight frost. I've seen snow exactly once in my 65 years.
I had to drive 100 km to the town of Jamestown, which is about 500 metres above sea level, to see it.
I was driving down the street when I heard the publican of one of their hotels being interviewed about it on the wireless. So, I went home and got the missus and kids, and off we went. Woefully underdressed, in a front wheel drive station wagon on dirt roads. The ungrateful little sods celebrated the adventure by pelting me with snowballs. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
The only time I've ever felt that cold again is when I got caught in a sudden winter squall out fishing.
The Mannanarie Hills outside Jamestown are about 700m, and that's where it snows.
It is not unusual, but it's not every year. And it won't snow for days, just the odd day here and there.
Still, a welcome change from 48C.

48°C is too blasted hot. 🥵
I like to think of it as a perfect excuse to stay inside under the air conditioning., sipping 100 proof Southern Comfort on the rocks and surfing obscure rock bands on Youtube. I tend to go outside long enough to put ice cubes in the chickens' water trough (not making that up, they won't drink if the water is hot) then run back inside before I wilt.

Had a chance to use a proper target rifle yesterday. The 200-yard shoot is for hunting rifles only, so I was automatically disqualified. I knew that before I started but couldn't pass up the opportunity to try my hand with an F-class rifle. The guy who loaned it to me wasn't sure what elevation he'd left the scope on, thinking maybe 300 yards. So I took a guess and wound 3 MOA off the scope. Ist sighter was still high, so I took off another 1.25 MOA, then nailed 20 bullseyes in a row. 55-year-old Omark single shot 0.223.

That sounds like me and that's why I went with a custom turret cap made by Kenton Industries.

The 2 is 200 yards. 2.5 is 250, and so on. Without it –with meat looking at me– I'm three thumbs and Capitan Fumbles.

Built a firewood basket into the bike carrier swingout. Built out of leftovers and recycled stuff. Haven't painted it yet. The chances are high I'll second guess because of weight and cut it off.

Nice. Calibrated for the trajectory of the 7 prc with 160grn projectiles, I see?
This rifle had a standard NightForce scope. A pretty old one too, it had turret caps, which they haven't had for some time, I'm told.
It was good weather though, and being an F-Class rifle, I wasn't limited to 25x magnification like I am in sporter class. So, I cranked her up. The aiming point was a white circle pasted over the V. It sure was a pleasure to shoot. Being F-Class heavy instead of hunting rifle light, and only a 223, the rifle barely moved when I caressed the lovely target trigger. So, I was actually watching the holes appear in the white circle. Made my day.
900 yards next weekend. I'll be doing that shoot with my 308. Doubt I will be able to repeat the feat, but I will be trying to.

Just looking at the picture Tony, the 7 prc must have a very flat trajectory? Maybe 2 MOA from 200 to 300 yards if the scope is 4 clicks to the MOA?

We're working on getting Shelly's mother's 40-year-old house ready to sell. The occupants were life-long smokers so the walls and ceilings need to be washed, then primed and painted. And, of course, all the carpet needs to be replaced. Shelly and I decided we're too old at this point to do the painting ourselves, but we can save a lot of money taking out the old carpet and hauling it to the dump. Seemed like fun when we signed up for it!

I hate tack strips, but I'll keep an open mind on these "engineered carpet grippers"

Bet they charge more for these!

Yes, very flat. 3,000 fps with a 160-grain bullet that has a BC of 600. And yes on the 4 clicks for 1 MOA.

Tony
Geez, 3000 fps with a 160 grainer is "hauling ass", as they say.
I've settled on a 308 load I really like - 155 grain Hornady ELD-M bullets, B.C. = 416, 45 grains of AR2208 (Varget) seated 24 thousandths off the lands. The bullets and powder are quite reasonably priced. and 155 grain is the specified weight for the local F-Std class.
Getting 2830 FPS from a 22" barrel.
It is working well enough in my budget Winchester that the guys in the club are saying don't change anything, just practice.
I pulled the elevation cap on my Nightforce scope and lined it up for the 200 yard zero. I'm now populating my range card with the scope settings for the various ranges out to 900 yards. When that's complete (this weekend, I hope) I'm going to see if I get one of those Kenton industries strips. They seem a brilliant idea to me. Didn't know they existed until you posted.
