What did you do today

At today's exchange rate, diesel is now US$8.47 per US gallon at my local servo.
Going to the smoke in April to see Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin concert.
We'll be taking the wife's Mitsubishi Lancer, because petrol is only US $7.00 per US gallon and it gets way better mileage. Potential is there for the trip to cost only 2/3 what it would cost in my ute.

Life can be a pain sometimes. But then you light the oven and invite 4 generations of family over for Good Friday lunch. 11 am in the Great Southern Land, anticipation is keeping me waiting.
Reminds me of a song - I reckon I shall go and dig out a Carly Simon LP.

I'm so vain, Carly Simon wrote a song about me! I remember, it was right after our date at Saratoga, where my horse (naturally) won. Then we flew my Lear jet to Nova Scotia, to watch a total eclipse of the Sun.

Nice! I plan on marinating and grilling some nice little lamb chops this weekend, serve with wild rice and maybe some carmelized onions.

When I'm on death row and they ask me what I want for my last meal, it will be grilled lamb chops.

After a long afternoon of pizza and good company I was feeling rather tired this morning, but I dragged myself to the range for the 300 metre shoot.
There was a little mix up with the electronic scoring system that caused me to believe my shots were further off than they actually were, which really messed up my scope adjustments, but I managed 190/200. Only two of us were shooting hunting rifles (as opposed to heavy target rifles) and the other guy only scored one more point than me, so not so shabby.
I took the handicap win for the day. The club handicapper adjusts my handicap regularly, but he claims he can't keep up.:ROFLMAO:
But then something really special happened.
A visitor brought his daughter along, and Malcolm, who happens to be an F-Class coach, persuaded them that she should shoot a round.
This little girl (she's 10) had never fired a rifle before. With a little expert coaching, she proceeded to outshoot the two of us hunting rifle shooters with Malcolm's F-Class target rifle.
194/200 with 8 "super centres". Outstanding shooting.
A joy to watch the future of the sport.

Today, I attended the Wallaroo Rifle Club which ran an Open Prize Meeting to celebrate their 150th anniversary. 3 heats - 1 @ 500 yards, 2 @ 600 yards. I've just started shooting F-Standard class. I'm still awaiting the police clearance to pick up the 308 F class rifle I have done a deal for, but our club captain loaned me a 50 year old Omark 223 to compete with.
I won the 500 yard heat (10 bucks prize money!), and placed second in each of the 600 yarders. Enough for second place overall. One more point would have secured the win, as this would have given me the same points as the winner but I had more " super centers".
This long range cordless hole punching sure is fun.

l installed a backup camera on my Trailblazer and 1993 Chevy pickup which has an 8’ bed not like the new trucks that are a SUV with a small bed. I bought it new in 1993.
The LeeKooLuu cameras were about $40 including tax from Amazon. Best instruction booklet for something made in China. Including links to YouTube. Now it’s so much easier to backup in those spots that are angled for the other direction and just safely backing up.

We are still getting my mother-in-law's house ready to sell. Lifelong smokers, so I took off all of the switch plates and washed the tar off of them (while the painters did their thing). Replaced the cracked ones with new.

Tip for North American homeowners and other incompetent electricians: Ivory and Light Almond are not the same color!

Update to last: Some of the folks who sell outlet plate screws on Amazon don't know the difference between Ivory and Light Almond either. $%@##^^&*!

I feel your pain. My son is an electrician, and he is adamant that appearances matter. He goes so far as to level his outlets and switches with a spirit level. Job ain't right 'til it's right!

Absolutely!

We are on about week ten of getting this house ready to sell, with lots of expensive fixes and lots of literal heavy lifting and plain work! Seems like a no-brainer to spend an easy hour or two (maybe on Sunday, when the contractors aren't there) swapping out scratched and tar-stained screws for a fresh $20 set. But the colors have to match--ivory plates with almond screws stand out like a sore thumb! Almost as bad as the outlets/switches and plates not matching.

Might just make the difference in the subconscious mind of a potential buyer.

In between getting the mother-in-law's house ready for sale, there's still work to do at our cabin (house). Last September I bought two portable air conditioners at our local thrift store. Now I built some partitions out of quarter inch ply so we can use them in rooms with sliding doors. Moved the latches but held off including insulation. They'll certainly come out before Winter. We'll see how this works.

When I built my teardrop way back when, my Mum gave me back the little 15L Engel fridge that my brother and I clubbed together to buy Dad for Christmas in the mid-80s. I put the AC cord away for safe keeping. Naturally, I never saw it again. Until yesterday. While looking for something else, there it was. It had been hiding in plain sight on a cluttered bench for about 5 years. Yay, I can run it from the mains again.

I felt the need for a quick getaway. With rain forecast, and the fire ban season over, I figured a nice overnight camp on the teardrop on the Rocky River was just the thing.
Getting the fire going in the rain was not too bad, so saturated I didn't bother with clearing the grass, then boerewors over the coals for dinner. My battery issues aren't fully resolved, the old battery out of the boat isn't really up to the job of deep cycling. Fortunately, I have a 15 AH Thumper battery I use in the ute for keeping the Engel fridge running when I turn the ignition off. It kept the lights on and the phone charged.
Coffee at dawn and off back home to get a grip on life again.

The yellowfin whiting, locally known as "silvers", are on. A recreational fisherman should never view his catch in dollar terms, but I guess I'm a bit soft, because I find the idea of putting about $75 worth of food in the freezer very satisfying.
The missus must be impressed. Shooting is cancelled due to rain today. "Good," she said, "Go catch some more fish."
Not sure if it's the fish (they are considered a premium species here), or just the fact that the Friday night fish and chips dinner is my job. Maybe the attraction is the night off from the kitchen.
