what does everyone use for a tow vehicle.

So since our other old Plymouth wagon still needs a lot of work, my wife and I decided to buy another wagon that is more roadworthy for towing and other things.
Our 1967 Plymouth Fury III wagon. This winter I will be getting it ready for long trips next season.

* I owned a sorta similar Mopar product from 69-71, when it got T-boned on an icy road by a '59 PINK CADILLAC (of all things). The Caddy backed-up and drove off, while I had a wheel stuck in a drainage culvert. I still dream of driving it, a 1967 Dodge Monaco 500 2-dr hardtop, with 383 4-bbl. + Torqueflite. Fast and comfortable, but having to service the drum brakes every other week (I was a young college student with a long commute) was its' only weak point. Wish I still had it. Enjoy yours!

My 2009 Scion 'XD' is a 1.8 liter Toyota 4 cyl with a 5 spd manual transmission. I was able to get 26mpg towing my 4x6 V-nose cargo trailer before the mods.
We've added 400# and 5 feet of length going from 10' and 760 lbs to 15' and 1000 lbs. The Beavers Bend gathering April 20th will be it's maiden voyage!

It's a pleasure to see other small cars towing their trailers! Now that I've spent a night in mine, officially making it a TTT, I finally feel worthy to share what I use to tow it:

2017 VW GTI with 160,000+ miles and tuned for power...

I'm still planning but right now, my goal is a trailer light enough to pull behind my prius. However, I have two kids who drive and and my sister and her family live locally, so it's possible other folks might end up using it. That is, if I ever start (and finish) the project. For that, my husband needs to find a job. *sigh* At least the planning will take a while, so I've got something to do in the meantime. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep from perseverating about building it by using my time planning!

I tow our 1000lb '48 Modernistic teardrop with our '32 Ford (Chevy power) and sometimes with a 120hp, 6speed auto Ford Fiesta

New '22 Chev Colorado 3.6L V6, 8sp-tran, 2wh drive with factory towing pk & brake controller = after 8500+ miles so far = 'GOOD'.... EPA MPG rated for 18city/25hy/21combined average - so far all MPG's have been right on the numbers++. First tow trip to N. Calif. in Sept.= 1765 miles/93.7gal = 18.84mpg (part of this trip included a good "up-hill climb" around the back side of Mt. Rainier). The PU has a max trailer tow weight rating of 7000lbs which I should be good on being my teardrop right now weighs in at 1900 total lbs. maxed out. (axle weight=1720lbs-toungue=180lbs.) which leaves me 'room' for some more add-on future lb. space if need be.....

Update - 2023/24 overall towing 'gas mileage' ? = a total of 5510 miles of towing ='s using 293.8 gals = 18.75mpg overall. One trip from here -W.Wash. to Kalispell, Mt.& back - included a total of going over 10/11 mountain 'E/W' (Cascade&Rockys) passes. Was also able to get one long steady 'freeway' run in getting a average of 19.3 mpg for almost 500miles (GrantsPass Ore/Stanwood Wa) heading home from Calif. on the last towing trip ... The PU so far? = I'm good..... with just over 20thou on it now & no problems to speak of, yet...........= it's been fine

Just swapped the Bronco Sport for a Maverick with 4K tow package. Planning on towing in some bigger mountains next year.

???? Electric ????? tow vehicle =  ....... still have concerns about my having a 'pacemaker'... the thought of getting an electrical shock and someone having to deal with finding my body crumpled up next to my teardrop/PU at a charging station with the charging cord still in my hand = NO THANKS......

???? Electric ????? tow vehicle =

Are you referring to my photo above?

If so, you might take a look at the vehicle. It's a Toyota Tacoma, not a Tesla. The battery is a lead-acid Group 24. It gets me started just fine. And you might read the line below the photo, which says, "Don't believe everything you see on the Internet."

 Yes - I am .... and yes, I got your message  But Yes = I do have a 'Pacemaker' and after all of their 'warnings' 9 years ago when they put it in = I still today also wander about the side-effects, 'warning's' of being around an electric car also??  (even in the owner's Manuel of that new '22 Chev Colorado I just bought, there was a note of "warning" that if this vehicle has the 'cell-phone' recharging pad option on the console, "to check with your doctor if you have a pacemaker" = this did make me go out to the vehicle and have a look-see? = it didn't have one ... Take Care ......so far, there are 2 "great" things about having a pacemaker = still alive 9 years later now and I never did go back work because of it (got to retire at 62) 31 yrs State DOC = haven't missed any of it yet!!!!
PS met up with our TearJerker Crawl group in '19 at a Sula,Mt campground north of you and have been back twice more since..... love that southbound drive to your town and area... don't know that I could ever be able to 'handle it' living there in the winter??? but the summers & those mountains there are just "gorgeous"!!!!! hope to get back there again one of these days............. it maybe as you say "the edge of nowhere" - but I'd have to said = it's the "GORGEOUS" NOWHERE !!!!!.......  :worship:

2005 Lexus SC430.

Nice, but sorta impractical for me, as I take along enough supplies for two weeks, even on a two-day excursion. That's why my 4x8 trailer is only at 2225 lbs, because the rest of my large collection of supplies goes into my tow vehicle (probably 300 lbs, just for camping/survival). My '04 Chevy 2500HD's bed is permanently-packed with camping, vehicle maintenance, and survival gear, and is dedicated to using it only (so far) when I camp.

I'm prepping my '01 BMW X5 for similar usage (still in the project stage; I've got 90% done), but my wife won't let me even drive her '14 Lexus ES350, much less tow with it, so no Lexus tow vehicle for me.

I am allowed access to her '98 GMC 1500, if I need to use it, though. It is halfway-prepped...heavy-duty engine, transmission, and suspension mods already done), so it's a third possibility to tow with.

Just got the Maverick for towing this spring as the Bronco Sport was pretty much at it's 2K limit.

'89 Dodge Raider 4x4 //aka Mitsubishi Montero 6 cyl. Was somewhat concerned about the short wheelbase .. but does fine. Lots of outback camps.

My new ride- 2003 Durango SLT, 2wd, 5.9L magnum engine, the last conventional OHV push rod engine they made.
53,000 miles locally owned by a senior lady. It’s been in FL since new= no rust at all. And- no hitch, so I know it was not ragged out towing trailers.
My wife told me if I want to buy a camper , to look in the help wanted ads for a job first, haha.
I found this at a dealer 5 miles away- $5500.
