Cooler Near The Lake II

Camping in the Midwest, including Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin & Kentucky. Also includes Buckeye, Hoosier and BlueGrass Tearjerker chapters

Postby Claw » Thu Apr 24, 2008 9:36 pm

OK I m so ready for a great weekend. Lori, I wish I could get off early but I have people from all over the world depending upon my delivery at 4:30PM on Friday. I am leaving at 5 ad hope to be arriving B4 8. I was hoping for a 2 pm depart but, this poverty thing keeps me bowing to the masta till 5.

The white water wipeout is a great example of why the weather is not all that important.

The cooler is stocked and the lake is waiting :woohoo: !!

Everybody ready?

We'll be leaving between 12-1, so, if all goes well, we should be there by 3-4.

Been a tough week around here...:( I join the ranks of the injured (meaning Tom...see earlier post about the ITG on this thread... ) with a bum knee...car issues (let's not go there - and no snickering from the peanut gallery from those who know us and cars... ). In fact it was Craig's Bronco that caused my injury. But on the positive side, Craig got home at 12:45am Monday morning with our daughter, who is home from college in Utah.

Our site (#12) will be up for grabs on Saturday afternoon, as we have had a change of plans and will need to leave by about 3:00pm. Sorry we won't be there for the pot luck and any evening festivities. :(

See ya tomorrow!

For those checking here just one more time before leaving home, I'm sorry about the weather. On the other hand having the shelter tomorrow looks like a very good idea. The bad part is that it will be open only on Saturday. I will be going out to the park just after lunch. It's only a few miles to home so I may be back and forth. For activities for tonight, I have arranged for a teardrop water test, so if you are worried about leaks this will be the time to check. Saturday sounds like it will be alright. This has been in the planning for 11 months, I can hardly wait, see you all latter.

Slight change of plans...I will be down there 3ish and the wife and kids will be there in the morning before breakfast starts.. No sense of everyone sitting out in the rain getting wet!!

Isn't getting wet half the fun?

Now it's not raining here and I am JUST 100 miles south. In fact the sun is shining and I wish I could be there. Darn health problems - maybe next year.

Sorry we missed everyone! We were there, honest!
I try to run a pretty benevolent dictatorship, but my team voted to leave on Sat morning after a "underplaned" Friday night. I was up in campsite 85, which had a view of the lake and pavillion. My DD and SIL were in a tent, and they were really cold.
Had I done a stronger "shakedown cruise" I would have remembered my pop up awning and better weather gear. Srtike 2 was waiting too long to order up a site and not having an electrified site. Finally I didn't have a match in my teardrop, for cryin out loud, as my lighter went empty over the winter!
I felt like I was only a good campfire away from holding the groups morale up, but my best efforts were snuffed out in the deluge Friday night.
My firewood was washed out and my pit flooded.
We pulled out around 10 AM Sat morning and started for home, and are eating what I had planned for the pot luck tonite for dinner.
Hope to see you all again down the road.
Dave and Irene

PS On the way out Sat morn I did see one funny sight... a tear drop parked at the Sleep inn out by the highway! You know who you are!
We would have joined you there had I to do it all over again!

That's why we call it Cooler Near the Lake!

Yep! We had a great time, too, albeit a bit short...(btw...car was fine and prom was worth the trip back!)

It was great to meet new faces and to visit with the "veterans."

Tom - Thanks, once again, for helping to make my b-day memorable.

Nan & Doug - The salad was awesome! Thanks for the "doggie bag." :applause:

Dianne - I hope you had a better night Saturday... :)

The breakfast was great! I'm sure the potluck was, too!

Thanks again everyone! Let's do it again next year!

I had a MUCH better night, thank you!!

I had a great time.
Would have been great except for the tent thing, but yeah...What did Jim say? "You went throught it, and now you have a story." Something like that. :)
Looking forward to next year.

What a fantastic weekend!!! :applause:

You guys are the best. Kudos to the venerable Craig and Betsey for the organization/distribution of the T-shirts, and to Claw (you lovable old teddy bear, you!) for the pins. It was so wonderful to meet all of you (and to see some of you for the 2nd time!).

I was going to post something like, "Who's the winner of the Tastiest Dish?" but I think everyone's cooking was so excellent that there's really no contest there!

Okay, so the weather sucked, but a bad day camping is better than a good day sitting on your @$$ at home.

Can't wait for the next one!
