DNR just replied again and the 3 centrally located parks that they recommended with electric were Mississinnawa Salomine and Prophetstown . I will try and run over and check out Prophetstown this week end as it is less than an hour away for me. It's brand new and I have never been there so it will be interesting to check it out.

Hey I typed in Indiana Winter Camping and this thread came up in forth place out of 877,000.

There's no saying it has to be a state park.

I guess one of the reasons I'm leaning towards Brown County is I want to try skiing again only did it once and it was a blast. You can ski in Nashville.

Pokagon has a Tobogan Run but I don't know if the campground is open. The kids would love that. Pokagon is way up north in Indiana and may be too cold for you southern boys.

I find myself in the Evansville area (Kasson actually) and for one know that it is easier to get to anywhere easier than Indianapolis from Evansville. In this area, when you want to find a larger burg, you go to St Louis, Louisville, or Nashville before you consider Indy. Consequently, I'm in the opposite cf tripmaker, the closer you get to Indy the less likely I am to make the winter campout.

I like Brown County---It'as close to Bloomington and even though I'm a graduate of Purdue (see I know what is is to be cold) I know Bloomington has a microbrewery that sell growlers---and Nashville (Indiana) is just down the road.

Besides Brown County is also close to Cincinnati and Dayton if any of those Buckeye Trardroppers decide to drop by.

NO skiing in Nashville - been closed for several years. closest skiing to there is Paoli! They may still have tubing at the old Nashville Alps, but I don't know for sure.

:( Oh well there's still lots to do and some one mentioned a brewery  which is always good.

I think we'll call Nashville the final resting place for the January 19th
gathering.

So let's see who's in
Scott (jst83)
Dan (prohandyman)
Bob (bobhenery)
Chuc (mrchuc)

That's 5 anyone else wonna test there tear in the cold.

I'm thinking one central fire, if we all pitch in wood it can be good size and burn for a long time.
Dinner over the fire as I don't think the dutch oven will heat to well in the cold, but I don't know. And I really loved the pie iron cooking in Oct.

Don't be too surprised if I show up, as Archie Bunker used to say, "on the sperm of the moment". Depend on how much snow we might have and if I can get the TD out of my barn. If I go it will be an 11th hour decision.

 That's what I like to hear. I understand the weather if there's a blizzard that weekend it might be hard pulling.
I figure not being able to make 1 night reservations until that tuesday we should know what the weekend weather will bring.
Or as close as the weather men can come in Indiana

I think we are all going to keep a weather eye out ! Last year we had a record high January so who knows what's in store this year. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed. This is what makes living in Indiana fun. You never know if you are going to cross country ski ,ice skate of just swim home from work. ( I'v done all 3 this week so far )

Went to Sportsman's Warehouse today in Lafayette and found their 12" dutch oven better than 1/2 off it was $21.99. It may be a zonk but I'm gonna give it a try out on the 19th weather permitting. Gotta get a bandaid on my cracked lexan roof from my backing up accident and get my new propane tank filled and I think old what's her name may get brave and accompany me.

My wife say no way So I'm bringing a long time camping buddy that's always will to make a road trip

Will a dutch oven work very well in the cold I'd think it would be hard to heat. maybe with a real good wind break

I'm bringing the Smokey Joe Jr Mini Webber grill to , so if needed I'll just set the DO inside it without the racks. There ya go a parabolic windbreak ( kinda sorta ) . I grill outside year around and I have found that it simply requires more charcoal in the winter because of the ambient temp difference.

UPDATE: Got the DO home and unwrapped it last night.( Thursday) Yes it is a "Made in China" kinda thing HOWEVER~~~

It seem to be an extremely good casting it is not the usual porous hunk of cottage cheese casting I was dreding. Even the underside of the lid is as smooth as a babys butt. It comes preseasoned maybe this helps to hide the porousity but I don't think so. It is extremely thick and I was well pleased. If I can successfully learn to use it I will be a happy camper.
