Camping trip in January.

Postby joycecporter » Sun Dec 16, 2007 8:02 pm

This sounds great, but my lazy butt hadn't started my teardrop yet. I'd consider pitching a tent, if that'd be ok.

Tents are most defiantly welcome. Theres gonna be some good food and a big fire. I'll look forward to seeing you there

And if you camp in a tent then your braver than I.
My brother does it with his scout troop every January, but I haven't since the military

Just keep saying I Think I Can, I Think I Can

2 days before last May's gathering I had no doors, it's amazing what you can do under pressure.

Before May I have a lot to do need to strip paint epoxy. paint, redo my hatch,

Fired up the heater in the camper tonight. got up to 70 at bed level not bad with 14 wind chill, 40F on the floor. I've got a serious air leak, I know where it's coming in so it should be no problem to seal up.

I think it will be comfortable, I'm so ready

I am getting ready for a Christmas trip to Dallas. We are pulling the Little Guy to haul some luggage for my Mother-in-law who will be making an extended visit down there. Denice and I will also use the trailer while we are there to give more room in the home we are visiting.

Today I pulled the trailer out of the garage and into the driveway to get it ready. While I was at it, I decided to check out how the little ceramic heater worked. Put it on low and turned the dial about three quarters up. Toasty warm in no time. 72 degrees F on the mattress with the wind howling and temp below freezing outside.

 Me too, Scott. I am so ready. :)

I'm looking into making or buying a portable thermostat that I can connect to my ceramic heater, so it will cycle on it's own, and I wouldn't have to get up occasionally to turn it off and on. Problem is that the thermo costs alot more than the heater!

The heater I am using has a thermostat built in. Bought it at Target just a couple of weeks ago. There are two controls. One a switch with Off, High, and Low. The other is a dial which adjusts from from Low to High. It cycles itself on and off. It was quite inexpensive (else I wouldn't have bought it), but I don't remember exactly how much. Seems to work great.

Dan, maybe it would be more cost effective to look for a heater like mine and repurpose your current heater.

Of course, one big advantage of having a separate thermostat would be that you can put it where you are instead of at the heater like mine. That makes it easier to adjust, too.

In any case, looks like you are ready to keep warm camping one way or another! :D

All the best...

Nope, not for me.

Denice and I camped out in the yard at my in-laws in Dallas last week. It got down into the thirties each night--cold for Texas. We stayed quite comfortable except for getting a little too warm a couple of times. The little ceramic heater worked great.

We are ready to go! (Well, I am. Denice isn't very cold weather friendly. If the temp drops too much, she may send me on alone!) The only thing that will prevent me coming is ice or bad snow. If it is safe to drive, I can handle the cold. (I ride a 250 cc motorscooter all through the winter.) :)

Just what I was wanting to here, yes Ice and/or severe snow is the only thing keeping me from my appointed rounds. I've got wood in the garage getting good and dry.
And I'm gonna remember the smor makins, I always forget Image

Adding a little more insulation between the galley and the cabin and I'll be good to go. Got my new Knox foam cushions just screaming to be slept on.

Well we only had a couple people speak up when I asked if there was second thoughts. It's not to late to join us, I heard it's supposed to be a beutiful weekend.
We can reserve spots for the one night on the Tue before so that will give us a chance to see what the weather is gonna do.
