just to confirm, this gathering is at kohler-andrae state park (wisconsin) on april 27 & 28?

i'm looking to get back into camping this spring after taking 2011 off and this would be a 4 hour drive for us...which i think could be doable.

what's the temps usually like in sheboygan, wisconsin at the end of april?

2kirks,

You are right on the date. The last weekend in April (Friday and Saturday nights).

As to temperature, well at past gatherings we have seen snow piles that were made by plows and had not completely melted by the time we camped. We have also seen highs in the 70s. It is a time of the year when temperatures can be hard to guess. I think I can guarantee though that you don't need to pack a swim suit (then I personally find this side of Lake Michigan too cold even in July) .

As I indicated in a previous message, the only miserable Cooler by the Lake was several years back when it rained and then rained some more. That is what makes our renting the shelter so important. We can have a nice fire going indoors and socialize no matter what the weather. The lake does keep the temperature down as compared to inland Wisconsin. That is all part of the charm of this event.

One thing I cannot emphasize enough, this is a beautiful park. Look up some of the past threads and you will find some of Mike's (Route 66) photos. He does a great job and posts some great scenes after each event has finished.

We would love to see you at this awesome gathering. This event is a great way to start off the camping season.

The following 1st circle sites are those that we have traditionally reserved for Cooler by the Lake. We already have three sites reserved by unknown campers and in the second circle the nearest 5 sites (which we also have used) have two gpme. Even the Tepee is already reserved.

I'd like to throw an idea out and see if anyone's interested.
My wife and I have been geocaching for many years now. It's a simple, fun hobby that takes us to a lot of interesting places which we never would have discovered if it were not for the hobby.

See more here: http://www.geocaching.com/

There are five geocaches in, or the edges of, this park. We have previously found three of them, but have a couple to go. I would love to get the last couple and, if there's interest, revisit the others.

All that's really required to enjoy this hobby is a hand-held GPS. If you have a GPS-enabled smartphone (like the iPhone 4 or 4S) that will work as well. As long as you can enter the coordinates and hit 'Go To' then it will work.

So I would like to propose that on Saturday, assuming (and HOPING) that it's not raining, Annette and I could lead a fun expedition to find one or more of these geocachies. Anyone interested, whether you have a GPS or not, would be me more than welcome to join us!

What say ye, fellow teardroppers?!?!>

Outtahand,

Our geocaching name is "Velocity Racing". We have attended and enjoyed several of the Wisconsin geocache annual camping outtings. We have not put our teardropping and geocaching outings together yet, but if you would like company we would certainly join you.

We even bought a stamp with our Velocity Racing info on it so that I don't have to sign the logs. Talk about lazy. :R

I certainly agree with you that geocaching has taken us to places that I would never go. The best is that you go to places in your own community that you never knew existed.

Yea, I may give this a try. I see stuff about it all the time and really don't know much about it. Always good to learn something else.

Last year in early February registration was up to 11 firm and two that were questionable. We are right on schedule.

Add me in at site 19. Geo Caching sounds like a good time, its been quite a while since I've looked for any in the park.
I might be able to scare up some home brew for Friday night.

Welcome BrwBier,

I've enjoyed your beer in the past and look forward to borrowing one in April. I used to brew myself but you have to make it in large volume and I just could not drink it or give it away fast enough.

Got my nephew into it and he quit a deadend job to work the loading dock at Sprecker. Kept brining in some of his home brew and within a year Randy Sprecker made Bill the second brew master. His still works there.

Yes, I think he'll be there and we'll do the dog beach on the north end again this year. For some reason, nobody seems to want to puppy sit him if I go solo. He knows what hitching the Teardrop to the truck means . . .
