Thanks for setting this up Dave. I really like the camp and pond map. I probably should have checked with you before picking a camp site but it seems I am ok. I picked the one that was closest to the comfort station without going to the next block of campsites!

Seriously, I am really looking forward to camping in the Adirondacks and meeting some nice teardrop folks.

Cheers

No worry Gail.. they are all nice sites. I get overly picky since there is so much to choose from!

The closest washroom is directly across the road from site 204 by the way. The closest at the other end is across from site 184.

Although on the America Reserve site they group sites in 'blocks', they actually aren't. They are all pretty much equal distance from each other. All sites are between the paved road and the water, washrooms on the other side of the road. They are usually quite clean, all flush toilets and have a sink (cold water only).

I just finished booking another 7 days at Fish Creek for July 6-13th also.

We have 2 additional trips to Fish Creek which we will be booking in August in a few days once the booking window opens up (You can book 9 months in advance).

Kate and I will be putting together a website with campground photos, things to do in the area etc etc as the months progress.

We are planning another big trip down to the Lake George area in August, which is another great destination in the Adirondacks.

I am considering going to algonquin park in Ontario this summer. I wonder why you folks tend to go to the Adirondacks instead of canadian parks. Any comments?

Hi Gail,

Good question! We still go to Bon Echo (south of Algonquin Park) once or twice a year. I heard that next year it will be open year round too! This is the best park in Ontario (in our opinion) within 4 hours of Ottawa. We usually stay in Alonguin once or twice also. Didn't make it there this year though. We go to Sandbanks on Lake Ontario every year for July 1st weekend.

We are more smitten with the Adirondacks because we prefer lake side camping. Water sites are few and far between in Ontario and difficult to find one available. Also the Adirondacks provide for a lot more options for activities out of the Campground. We also prefer a mountainous landscape to the relatively flat areas in Algonquin.

We have started to call Fish Creek our 'Cottage' lately since we go there a lot which is why we are hoping to get a boat this year. Its great to have such a prime location for $20 a night instead of paying $500,000+ for the cottages just down the waterway!

Algonguin Park is definately a great park but is somewhat remote. It is excellent though for hiking, biking and canoeing. It is also farther for us than going to the Adirondacks. Its a better destination to 'get away from it all'... but thats not us I guess.

Bon Echo should be on your list if you come up Gail. It has some great features and the campground is fantastic. Great hiking, canoeing, and the scenery is great.

You must stop at Charleston Lake too if you can. Fantastic lake for canoeing/boating.

I have a variety of photos from Bon Echo on our Camp ADK site, as well as some fun shots taken at Mew Lake in Algonquin.

I have a ton more but its a challenge to keep up even with current photos!

When are you considering coming up to Ontario?

So we are 4 tears so far. Room for more!

We have sites 193, 195, 197, 199. We must be an 'odd' bunch. Someone book those even numbers! 194, 196 and 198.

Currently Reserve America shows the following sites are available in our area for June 16-20 time frame.

187, 188, 189, 190, 191, 192, 194, 196, 198, 200, 201 , 202, 203, 204, 205

Steve I think we'll have to have some regatta activity of sorts on the water. Sounds like we should have enough water toys!

We're not Odd!

Postby Al-Les-Palace » Wed Nov 17, 2004 6:50 pm

OK, we accepted the challenge of the "odd" folks and reserved Site 198 for nights of June 16-20. We will probably camp at the southern end of the park either before or after these dates.

We think that this puts us next to one of our Camp Inn's classmates from the class of Oct 2004.

We agree with everything that is being said about the Adirondacks. We have been camping, canoeing, and, more recently, kayaking there for 10 or so years. It has a feel of real wilderness, but you are never more than 20 miles from an interesting town or village (Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Long Lake, Inlet, Old Forge, etc., etc.) for a diversion on a rainy day.

There is good paddling (large and small lakes, ponds, slow rivers, even some rough whitewater in places) every few miles. The Adirondacks were described by someone as a "high altitude swamp".

We have camped only once in the summer at Fish Creek - actually we were at Rollins Pond (adjacent). Alan camped after Labor Day with one or more of our kids for several years when they were in college. It is probably the most beautiful of the campgrounds. The sight of the start on Square Pond of the heats of the 3rd Day of the 90 mile Canoe Classic in September is spectacular as the morning fog rises on a crisp, sunny fall day. Back to reality, how many months 'till June?

Looking forward to meeting everyone. We assume we will keep in touch on this thread?

Because of mental confustion, I got site no. 194.. a 40' site... should be long enough.

I just hope I got the month and year right....

196 is still available for a 20 footer.

Excellent!

Lets hope we can fill in the 'void' with site 198 to 'keep us together!'.

Yup I think all these sites will fit a 20 footer or better. Usually these are prime spots for larger RV's so they are nice and roomie. Luckily this is before school is out or we would have had to all pile into one tear!

I got started on a site for the 'gathering'.. I mean 'tearUP'. I'll be getting it together over the next few weeks.

Visit the site at http://campadk.com/pjsnoozer/springtearup2005/

Cheers

We are in

Postby anonymous2 » Wed Nov 17, 2004 8:41 pm

Hello all,

We just hooked site 196 for the 16th - 19th. Look out the Camp Inns are coming. We get to check out our sister, and brother nest mates when being built, how cool is that. This wait is going to be longer then waiting for our Camp Inn's to be built. We have to take photos to show Cary of CI and see if we can get them to post our tears on their web site. Can't wait to meet you folks. I am bringing 2 kayaks,so we will have our own Navy too.

Kayaks vs. canoes??

Postby Al-Les-Palace » Wed Nov 17, 2004 9:52 pm

Sorry, we will probably bring the kayaks. They are our newest water toys - but 3 years old now. Leslie really likes her freedom in the kayak because she can go where she (not I, who is usually in the back of the canoe) wants to.

Regardless of craft, the location is perfect.

It will be great to see the other two Camp Inns which we saw at Necedah in October. Do we know who the fourth was?

I assume that we will be quite a spectacle at Fish Creek!!!! Probably worth a little press converage? Oh, I forgot we are supposed to be having a tranquil, wilderness experience.
