We are thinking of doing this weekend, but I won't be doing the port-a-potty thing(this is Mrs Boomer) We will keep an eye on this thread to see what you all decide to do.....

I called the campground, no reply. Will try again tommorrow. Reserve America has not been informed of any issues with Loop B so they won't assist us without charging us the cancellation/re-reserve fees.

Rick suggested Loop A would be our best alternate since there are lots of sites available (and its very close to the main shower/bathroom complex).

Reserve America charges $8.50 cancellation fee and you also give up your reservation fee of $9, so thats $17.50 to change sites.

I'm going to call the park direct tommorrow and see what we can do to 'swap' over to B loop. Hopefully they will be able to manage this without charging us since we were not informed of the broken potties.

I'll post here as soon as I get an answer etc tommorrow morning.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing all this extra leg work.

For me, it was a borderline thing when I thought it would cost everybody $8.50 -- but if it's $17.50 per site, that tips it over the edge for me. If it were up to me, I'd put up with a short weekend of portapotty rather than pay that -- but we'd be thrilled if you could negotiate a "swap" directly with the park.

Another question which comes to mind is what state the showers and drinking water faucets are in. Are they impacted by the problems which are holding up the regular bathrooms? What do we know about that now? Can you ask that question when you talk to the park? That could make a difference.

P.S. -- Unrelated question for GreatScott. What are the members/ages in your family?

When I was informed about the Porta Potties I inquired about the other loops ( loop C in particular, since that was close to where everyone was going to be) and was told that loop C has a brand new bathroom and new showers. They went on to tell me that all of the other loops have functional bathrooms.

I don't know if that will change anyone’s mind but since I started this whole Porta Potty debacle, I figured I should let everyone know what I was told.

I'm just glad I called the camp directly and the person said something about it.

I just went to Reserve America and there are plenty of sites in loop C for everyone that was listed earlier in this thread. Post what you guys decide and I hope to see everyone there.

Sal,
Sorry missed the part about kids ages, Sue (aka " she who must be obeyed"), Brian 18 and Allison 15, and the dog Teaghan and the puppy (6wks old) Oscar.

If you wanted to convoy, we might be able to work something out. We will have to wait until after school/work also.

Keep in touch.

If Dave is unable to reach the campground by phone I will go there. I am camping at Golden Beach this weekend, so I can stop by Nick's Lake on the way up and check out the situation in person Friday. I'll look at the restrooms, showers, and water, as well as Loop A sites. I can call Dave or Rick to post the info, but I will be gone until Sunday night.

Just got off the phone with the park directly.

The gal says they are working on it as we speak, and they should have the toilets working by this weekend. Sounds like the showers won't be ready however.

I told her there was a group of us going and this was a concern. She said she is working diligently to get things open (I believe she mentioned 'shooting them' if the work was not done so we should be good ) LOL.

Here is their webcam... they are on to it!

I'm going to re-check with her middle of next week to verify that the toilets are finally flushing

So at this point I'm suggesting we 'hold tight' and trust that the plumbing gods will take care of this.

If there is still any doubt next week, we can see about moving to Loop A.

The parks direct number by the way is 315-369-3314.

It's funny that you called me "Sal." There's a long story about that. You can call me Thomas... or even Helmut von Druhler in a pinch.

We've got younger children -- 7, 5, and 2.

Maybe we could race there. :-)

I don't know for sure where I'll be working that day. I'm currently scheduled for Webster, which probably means I won't be going through Rochester. There's a chance I'll be in Henrietta, though. I suppose if you pass me, you'll recognize my rig.

[Added in edit: ... because I won't be passing you. But if I did, it'd look like an ordinary cargo trailer from the slow lane.]

I'll stop by Nick's Lake Sunday or Monday on the way back home and get the scoop, and maybe some pictures.

We are flexible and will go along with whatever the group decides. Portapoties or a walk are all ok.

We are now setup at Eighth Lake and will check back from the wifi and Inlet Library Tue or Wed.

We were still debating when to make the move to Nicks L Thur or Fri morning.

See ya next week.

Not to worry folks- Diane and I just got back from a day trip to Old Forge and we stopped by Nicks Lake. The bathrooms in B loop are fully functional   . They are very clean and modern(not something you normally see at a NYS Park)even tested one myself ;). The showers aren't working yet, but we can use the main shower building as we usually do. Took a few photos and will post them as soon as we download them.

okay...is there room for one more?
I can actually get out of work at a reasonable time on Friday, and the main focus of my sister's 50th birthday is going to be Sunday afternoon, which means I'm off the family b-day party hook until then.

I'm going to check ReserveAmerica right now...I'd love the chance to finally take my back field camp outs off private property.

(edited in) I just booked site #28. Looking forward to meeting all of you I haven't met yet next weekend!

:) Here are just a few photos of our trip to Nicks Lake today. The first one (Dave) is for you......it's a pic of YOUR site. Also, there's a pic of the playground too. (It's a nice one) and it's right near the beach. There were folks out on the lake in kayaks & canoes.

Norm & Jeanne here. I went on Reserve America last night and we booked site 034 in loop B. This morning after checking this thread, I noticed that Rick & Diane have site 034 booked. Rick & Diane, can you please get back to me on this if the site has been double booked. Thanks.
