Kurt,
Got to check those scuppers!

Thanks for the link. It was very interesting I guess my impression of the SOTs was from what I saw of people on the River at Turkey Run. Everyone I saw was sitting in a pool. I wasn't sure if that was normal or because they were in a group that had been fooling around splashing each other. I guess I'll have to look into this more although I think the SINK is still the better option for our use which is mostly just paddling around.

Did you know prohandyman has a kayak fishing group? He told me they use SOTs and sit sideways with their feet in the water.

Anyway I don't see us buying anything until after we come back from ADK. We should have a chance to try some different types while we're there.

Stu,Kurt,

Not all SOT's have scupper holes in the seat,or even the foot area, but will have some somewhere in the recessed area to allow water to drain out. The more weight you have in a SOT,and the faster you paddle will allow water to rise up farther into the holes, and spill into the recessed area.Get out,or slow down they will self drain. You can get scupper plugs{usually sold by the manufacturer} to fill offending holes, but any water splashed into the recess will fill up the boat, add weight, and slow you down. SOTs are usually concidered warm water only boats. If you plan to paddle early spring,or fall, colder water, check into SINKS. Yes on SOT's you can easily exit & enter in the water, because of wide stability. They are used a lot by divers, and some SOT models have spare air tank wells in front or rear of the boat. The width works against SOT's and if you plan to put miles on your boat it will be tiring to paddle. A SINK is usually sleeker, more efficient, and easier to paddle. NEVER EVER BY A KAYAK/CANOE WITHOUT PADDLING IT FIRST. Your weight, purpose for use may not be what you want,or be hard to steer, lift, etc. Try a lot of boats to see what works for you better.

Thanks for the heads up on Kayaks. This is a deeper subject that I imagined.
Since these things aren't cheap, it would definiately pay off to test drive one before deciding.

I'm starting at ADK and the quest to find an appropriate Kayak will begin.
  :o
Stu, I taked to Dan (Pro Handyman) at Turkey Run but we didn't get into detail about the Kayaks they used. I do remember him saying they sat sideways and fished from theirs sometimes.

As this quest begins, I will be looking at ideas for a (teadrop) roof rack also.
Any suggestions from any one would be helpful.

Dave should know this, but I'll ask anyone who might know the answer.

Is there a WiFi "Hot Spot" at or near FCP?

It sure would be nice to pick up email (and maybe do a little work) from the teardrop.

Kurt,
See you Sat. Leaving now.

I don't know if there is one near FCP, but I'd bet Dave would know if anyone would.

just a quick feeler to see what people think of wild game dishes for the pot-luck? We're thinking of bringing venison or moose chilie or maybe some venison dip (with chips or tortillas). But, I don't want to bring something nobody will like. Thoughts??

THanks!

Cleave, I'm game (so to speak). Heck I love food, especially different foods.

I'm all for it myself.

Usually a good change Kurt... but never a guarantee. Come on over to the 'Flish Creek Float a Boat Internet Cafe' in the morning
and we'll see if we can find you a connection.... :worship:

For more excitement, we have some videos slide shows online at http://fishcreekpond.com/videos.html .
Ignore those ice cream truck shots though... probably about a week to early for that

13 lucky days to go!

Kate and I'll be at FCP for just a night on Thursday, then back the following Thursday early for the TearUp.

I have already been warning the park superintendent about us tearing things up... :o

Bring on the venison! I don't hunt ,but my boss at work does,he likes me,and I have a steady supply each year. He makes jerky, steaks, and sausage. His spicy sausage patties are to die for{BTW they are gone already}. Have 2 nice steaks yet for special occassions. I will be tasting yours if you bring it.

As for the pot luck, make whatever you are good at making at a campground, favorite dish, casserole, salad, stew, soup,or drinks. Trust me they will eat it. LOL
