Alan the current particpant list is available at:
http://campadk.com/pjsnoozer/springtearup2005/participants.html

Hmm... maybe that "tanquil, wilderness experience" is a bit of false advertising. Fish Creek isn't so tranquil... well at least in July/Aug when school is out. Somewhat quieter in June or September though. Access to 'still quiet waters' though is only a 5 minute paddle away.

So three sets of Kayaks it will be! We'll bring some floatie toys too to add to the mix.

First, do they allow dogs?

2nd, Shirley will be coming.

3rd, probably bring my kayak.

Probably bring some extra blankets....... I expect the nights will be cool..

I have 5 nights. We are retired, so have 16-20... but in fairness, since the whole reservation system is new, I got carried away... but, it will be our last big trip for the summer, as we leave the roads to families in the summer....

July/August we will take shorter trips, probably chasing sheep dog trials around new england, and maybe down to Virginia and Ontario, Canada.

Hi Arne,

Yes they allow dogs. Here is what they say in regards to pets...

"Pets are allowed with proof of current/valid rabies vacination. Dogs can no t be left unattended. Pets are not allowed in day use areas, beaches or any structures. Garbage must be taken to a recycling area at designated times fo r processing. Clear plastic bags are required. Instructions will be provided directing you in recycling procedures. "

Being an early riser (sometimes), I've been familiarizing myself with Reservations America.... what a wonderful resource it is.

I tried to get reservations for Americade, a motorcycle rally I attend in Lake George in early June, and found all the sites in the closest campground listed were 'not available'.

I also tried to make reservations a year in advance and found I couldn't. I think I had read somewhere that they had gone from 12 month to 9 or 10 months in advance......

All in all, am glad you pointed this out for my own future use.....

Couldn't find "Fish Creek Pond State Park" on the NY State Park website - turns out it is a private campground, not a state park.

Great. An 1100 mile round trip sandwiched between the NE Scotty Rally the previous weekend (probably in NH and also about an 1100 mile R/T) and the TearJerker's Gathering at Hickory Run State Park, PA ("only" a 480 mile R/T) the weekend after. I really want to go to all of them, but I'll probably have to choose between this one and the Scotty rally.

I'll keep you posted.

Your correct Joseph in that Fish Creek Pon is not a State Park. Its actually run by DEC (New York State Department of Dnvironmental Conservation).

See http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/do/or2top.htm .

For all intent and purposes it is pretty much just like a state park and is not anything like any private park I have been too.

Info on Fish Creek Pond is found on Reserve America at
http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commo ... index.html

How far are you from the ADK Joseph? Can you make it?

It's about 550 miles from me which isn't that big a deal if it weren't between two other events I want to attend. As I said, I don't know if I can make it just yet - She Who Must Be Obeyed must first be consulted and I don't think she can get that much time off (just started a new job) so I'll have to get a Special Dispensation to do it solo. If I do get it, I know it's going to cost me!

At this point I'm considering foregoing the Scotty Rally and taking off the 16th through the 26th. Head for your gathering, stay in the ADK for a few extra days of fishing, canoeing, general idleness & sloth, then head down to Hickory Run for the Tearjerker's Gathering. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to bring Sarah since I know NJ state parks don't allow dogs in their campgrounds, even though it appears that Fish Creek Pond does.

OK, I'm in. Got the tentative blessing of herself - she can't come because she's running a camp that week - and reserved site 200. Now off to make reservations for Hickory Run.

I'll be bringing my Old Town Pack canoe - it's the little 12-footer.

Joseph,

Well if is going to 'cost you', you'll definately had to pick up a fine gift in Lake Placid if you make it.

Be great if you can make it!!

Arne,

Your right! Odd... did they remove all the state parks in NJ or what?

No... they are listed on the NJ DEP site at
http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandfore ... index.html

Hey no entrance fee! Is that possible? NJ here I come!
