I’ve got the dates noted. Fingers crossed for no more hound dog rattlesnake bites.
Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".

Dogs and rattle snakes in one of my great fears. :frightened:
I always worry a little when I take Cheyenne and Dakota out in remote areas.
Glad to hear that it turned out as well as it could.

Hope to see you and your kids in August 8)

She’s been on the rattlesnake vaccine since I got her. She was bitten near her eye and inside her mouth, and had an open wound from her eye to her throat for about 8 weeks.

Fortunately I saw it happen and got her to the emergency vet about 35 miles away within 45 minutes. It turns out facial bites are the most survivable for dogs. She still took 3 vials of antivenin to pull through.

She’s got an epic battle scar. This pic was 12 weeks afterwards. There are a few more in my album.

So sorry for your friend's snake bite.

Because I hike a lot in the desert, I took my dog to snake bite avoidance training. It was a 2 hour training held in a local park in Boise. The cost was minimal. When we started the training my dog was extremely curious of the snakes (no rattle snakes were used). Two hours later he knew snakes were very dangerous and he needed to stay far away. Years later, he alerts to anything snake.

I feel safer for my own protection having my dog with me in snake country because I can't smell a snake at all but he can smell even a shed skin from 20 feet away. And he lets me know.
