Actually, we just started camping last year after completing the TD, so I have not been to a ton of Nebraska parks.

Ft. Kearny is close, we've been there, pretty nice and quiet with several small fishing ponds.

I have a friend that tells me there is nothing funner than camping on the sandy beaches of Lake McConaghey, but I haven't gotten there yet. Drop the 4X4 into Low lock to get on the beach! Harry Strunk Resevoir by Cambridge is nice with good boating, too. Lots of wildlife.

We drove through Mahoney last winter, did not stay of course, being it was wintertime, just checking it out, but there looks to be tons of activities to do there including a huge pool/aquatic park, plus the Strategic Air Command Museum and a drive-thru safari animal park is close. That would be a good one to check out.

There are many, many more, but I am kinda new to this and haven't visited alot!!

Well get busy. We need to have a gathering in Nebraska. I didn't start camping until I built the trailer also. Half way through the build I started worrying if I'd even like camping. :o I'm glad I do.

Thanks for the info on the parks.

Here's the information on Chicken Annie's.

Map

Chicken Annie's has 3 locations. They are known as the Original, Annex, and Girard locations. For years I only ate at the Annex location because that's where Grandma and Grandpa took me. ;)

Annex - This is located right at the junction of 69 and 400 highways which makes it very convenient if you'll be traveling north on 69. In my opinion this is the best of the 3 locations. About 30 miles from the campsite.

Original - This is where the Travel Channel filmed the show Food Wars and would be the place to go if you wanted to try out the competition, Chicken Mary's. To me this location has the heat up a little too high on the fryers. That's not all bad because they have the best onion rings but the chicken is a little overcooked. About 24 miles from the campsite.

Girard - This one is closest to the state park and has good chicken. The sides I find to be bland here and the onion rings seem undercooked. About 15 miles from the campsite.

Hours of operation.
Tuesday-Thursday (The Girard location is closed on Tuesdays.)
4:00 P. M. - 8:30 P. M.
Friday-Saturday
4:00 P. M. - 9:00 P. M.
Sunday
11:00 A. M. - 8:00 P. M.

Addresses and phone numbers.
Original
1143 E. 600th Ave., Pittsburg, KS
620-231-9460

Annex
1271 S 220th St, Pittsburg, KS
620-232-9260

Girard
498 E. K47 HWY., Girard, KS 66743
620-724-4090

Here are a couple of photos from 2009. (Stolen from Dennis' photos.)

Remember that taste is subjective and these are just my opinions on the different locations.

Thanks,
Darren

More about the gathering coming soon. Stay tuned.
