WTW 2023 After Party at Yellowstone NP

Will announced (in last year's thread) WTW 2023, July 21-25.

This thread is about going to Yellowstone after WTW 2023. I did this last year, and picked up some great travel companions. There was more fun to be had with a group.

My thought is to have this as unstructured as WTW, other than picking a campground where we can get together at day's end.

I've got one guideline for seeing the Park: You can't stay just one night and expect to see much else than Old Faithful. Two night stays will make for a one very busy sightseeing day. I'm going for a third night this year.

So if you're interested, then reply to this thread, announce yourself and let's plan something.

I'm definitely interested, not sure how park access even works any more, I have a lifetime access pass but there are other things involved in just getting in now let alone getting a campsite.

June '22's washouts of the North and the Northeast entrances were repaired and reopened in October. . There will be road work in the park. They have 2 seasons, Winter and Road Repair.

Last summer, If you had the Old Farts Pass, admission to the park was free. 2022 had an odd/even license plate entry rule. Because Covid(?). But if you had campsite resers, it didn't apply. Gummint is involved, so by next July, who knows?

Let me recommend the Madison Campground. It's located about 14 miles east from the town of West Yellowstone and 16 miles north of Old Faithful. Its location near the east-west cutoff on the Grand Loop Road lets you easily divide the Park into 2 days of exploring without a lot of backtracking. North half one day, and South half the next. Or vice versa. The campground is more or less level, (some what less than more, more or less) with no steep slopes. No utility connections.

Some campsite sizes are already sold out or getting scarce, but I don't know how fast things are filling up. So don't wait too long to get your reservations.

depending where you are coming from or going to, this is a great free camping area at the NE side of the park. My son and I stayed there a couple of years ago, right on the river, pretty spot.

We missed you last year. :( Glad you're coming back to WTW, plus after-party. Time for one more

Thanks, wysedav. That looks like a really good spot for anyone coming/going through Billings or Cody. So far, I don't have anything planned after Yellowstone. Maybe...

There are no extra things to get in. You have the pass and that's all you need. But, of course, also a camping reservation. Get that ASAP. I'm trying to remember if you live in Idaho or directly across the border in Washington.

Don't feel tooooo bad. I had to look it up, just now.;)

To send a Private Message to someone, click on their picture or their name. That will take you to their profile page, and there is the link to send a private message. Easy once you know how.

It only gets worse as you get older.

We will be there the following week with a family gathering. Getting reservations required reserving two weeks before, at the six months before, we wanted and canceling the two weeks.
