SLO gathering?

Anywhere in the country is fine. Where do you want to camp?

SLO gathering?

Postby sftiggee » Fri May 11, 2007 11:41 am

It has come to my attention that there are alot of folks on the board in the San Luis Obispo area and since SLO is about halfway between SF Bay area and LA, perhaps it would be a good place to have a gathering. Would anyone be interested?

I love the area and I'm sure there are several places we could have a gathering. Just wanted to get a sense of how much interest there would be to possibly start up a yearly event there.

It could work for me, depending on the dates. I pass through there on the way to Salinas a couple times a year.

Yes, I'm interested. SLO is south west of me. About a 4 hour drive.

That would be an interesting place for a gathering as it has a lot of nice areas. It is only 100 miles north of me, which I like. Of course it would depend on dates, whether I could go or not.

Think Morro Bay. Two state parks and a couple of private camp grounds.

Let's make it for teardrops and vintage trailers and then let anyone in from this board who wants to come with something else.

You know that there is a Gathering in Jan every year for vintage travel trailers and teardrops? It's held by the MaxiTear bunch at Morro Bay State Park.

I love all the ideas.

Gage: I agree Morro Bay is the ideal location for the gathering. I didn't realize there was a vintage gathering there in January. Also, I like the idea of opening it to all tears, vintage small trailers, and folks from the T&TT board.

DHazard: I'm thinking that perhaps April or September would be good times to go, it avoids the peak camping season and getting the space would be easier, plus I think aren't many other events during that time.

I like the theme of SLO gathering, or perhaps "SLO tears at the rock" or something similiar. I love the snail idea for shirts:)

We'd definitely have DO cooking (perhaps a how-to?), a potluck and a big campfire circle would be good. We could also provide info for folks who want to check out the local sights. A raffle, t-shirts, perhaps a wine tasting tour for those interested (Paso Robles wineries).

I'll still have to think of other ideas that could make this one unique in its own way and would be willing to help organize, and promote the event for next year. Matt, feel free to pm me for my email address and we can start discussing the planning of this event. Anyone else who would like to help is also free to pmm me for my address:)

I think there is definitely enough interest to get the ball rolling on this one:)

My vote is for April. CA weather is usually very nice then and I happen to have a hole in my schedule about then. :)
