Any western Canadians out there?

I'm wondering if there any others in western Canada that might be interested in a gathering next summer? It seems many other western canadians come and go, don't see many stick around. Maybe we need to get something going here.

Not Canadian, but I'd love a trip up that way. Where did you have in mind?

Not really sure where, I guess it depends in part on where the response comes from. It would be nice to go into the mountains but it might be hard to get a good area during prime camping season. How far north are you willing to travel? Waterton area might not be bad.

Catrinka I appear to be in the same city as you imagine that.

Of course I don't have my trailer built yet, haven't even started. But I'd sure as heck make the trip with my tent if there were some Tears n TTT to check out.

I like to stay within 12 hours from home for a long (4 day) weekend, which (I think) would put Slave Lake as the absolute limit north for me. Of course, I'm flexible and haven't been much farther north than Waterton Park, so I could always take an extra day or 2 if the timing was right. Wow, that was a lot of words to say nothing.

Burke, I slept in my car at my first gathering last spring. It was well worth it!

Okay, well we have all winter to come up with a place. Any ideas Burke? Sam, I think you would find that Slave Lake is a little more than 12 hours for you. Edmonton is about 10 hours from Great Falls.

SamR I've done the sleeping in car bit, actually it was a truck, of course that was because I foolishly left the back window of my tent open the whole day during a storm...

My current vehicle is a Jeep TJ so I'd rather use my tent if I haven't built a trailer by then.

Catrinka there is Wabamun, Sylvan, Banff, Drumheller...

If we go towards the south we probably would have a better chance of getting folks from south of the 49th and BC. Drum would probably be easier to get co-ordinated and a bit less busy than Banff.... hmn hills or valleys?

Oops, right. I do tend to stretch it. Any of those locations look good to me. I just need an excuse to get up there.

Well I'll have to do some research and see what I can find.

I'm in for the possibility!! What about some place like the provincial camp sites like Writing on Stone park, east of Milk River (just north of the border) or Drumheller? I am in St. Albert, so any area is within 5 or 6 hours of us. I just sold an Apache pop up, and am looking to build a winter type of unit. Until it is built, a tenting I will go!

I was looking at Drumheller campgrounds online, but they seem to be fairly pricey.

I've been searching the net. There are several provincial parks that have group sites. We just need a minimum of 5 campers to book. Some of the parks I've looked at are Kananaskis area or Rocky Mountain House area. Got any other ideas or input?

Just spent a pleasurable half hour checking both places out online. I especially like the looks of Rocky Mountain House area, but I would enjoy either location.

If you are ok with fairly primitive camping, there are amazing campgrounds for only $8 to $12 per night, or the group areas, which seem to be fairly primitive if I remember correctly. The Kananaskis area has great scenery, as well as fairly private camping, according to all I have researched. Sounds good to me!

My wife and I stayed at a very primitve campsite between Caroline and Rocky Mountain House, that had a pump, and pit toilets. It was beside a creek, and was a great place to relax, and rejuvinate.
