...located just outside of town(basically) are Lake Ouachita and Lake (K)Catherine...there are state parks at both...also, since Hot Springs is a major tourist destination, places such as KOA, etc should also be located nearby.....

MadJack is right and another State Park is De Gray link :
http://www.degray.com/maps-directions/
Which may be closer to Little Rock than Hot Springs. There are alot of parks in that area of the state because of a horse races and dog races are in the area of Hot Springs along with the Mineral Hot Springs bath houses and Spas dating back to the 1900's.

Good luck and have fun.

You can camp pretty much any direction fron Hot Springs ! Lake Hamilton is probally where the "Yellow Duck" ride took you. There is ,as mentioned Lake Catherine , Lake Ouachita ( the largest % nicest IMHO), Lake Degray is about 30 miles away close to I-30 . If you get bored with the lake scene there a crystal mines to explore @ Mt Ida and diamonds to look for in Murfreesboro. Then you can go to Rich Mt in Mena or Mt Magazine to enjoy some fresh air in the clouds. There are also lots of Golfing oppertunities. The Ouachita mountains have numerous hiking trails.Maybe you just need to spend a month and do it all!
