Campgrounds to consider......

In search of.... new places to camp.
Around every campfire, the conversation usually turns to the next camp out or gathering.
We begin tossing around the idea of "where else can we go??"

So with this in mind, Rick and I set out on a road trip near the Okla- Kansas state line.

Our first stop was at Washington Cove on Copan Lake, about 10 miles north of Bartlesville.
This is a COE park with reservable sites that are gravel with electric and water, newer concrete tables, grills and fire rings.

The sites are large and spacious and as you can see.... lots of trees which, produce tons of leaves this time of year!!

Modern clean bathhouse....... and a reservable pavillion.




From there we visited Hula Lake and Wa-sha-she State park .... do not reccomend this place at all.


So, on to Birch Cove at Birch Lake. Near the city of Barnsdall a few miles southwest of B'ville.

This is also a COE park with reservable paved sites, electric and shared water.
The bathhouses are not as nice as others I have seen and do need updating.

The sites are wide grassy and have concrete tables, grills and fire rings.



All in all I would say we found a couple of real nice places to camp or have a gathering.

Those both look good to us.....this weekend we are looking for somewhere to camp. Maybe someplace with a festival of some kind....last weekend at arrowrock was great, week before at NATURAL FALLS was good, then Mill Creek, before that Crawford. So far all good week ends, weather has been perfect camping.

east of Ponca city

it has 90 sites

restrooms , showers,

its coe also

Hey Linda what was bad about Wa-sha-she State park? Don't leave us hangin! You probably don't want to talk bad about a place, but if it's an honest evaluation there's nothing wrong with sharing the truth.

I actually think Turner Falls is nice to visit, but too busy of a park to be relaxed and I like Dinosaur Valley State Park much to CD's chagrin who thinks there's nothing there but Dinosaur tracks! There are some cool trails and a nice easy hill climb with a great view.

I thought Wa-Sha-She was old and in need of repairs. Rusty grills, broken concrete tables, bathhouses not very nice. It is a state park and you cant reserve your sites. Also ... it seemed to be "in the middle of nowhere". Hard to get to and nothing to do in that area.
This is just my opinion, not a place I would want to camp..... others may like it there.

went to Kaw Lake today

went first to Osage cove, and there are two campground groups

sites 1-40 are shady and kinda far apart, and not really updated

gravel or asphalt pads, pretty level it seemed

then sites 41-94 are bigger sites, still asphalt, some shady and some not


both areas have bathrooms and showers but not updated at all


there are restrooms scatterd throughout the campgrounds also

they have elec. and water nearby


then I went to Coon Creek Cove

it has a new bathroom / shower building, but the sites are really "rough"

quite smaller campground, the sites are barely paved, most were grown over and grassey.


I was really disappointed at these two campgrounds , I actually thought
they were in better shape.

So, I personally think we can take this one off the list.

We were wondering about Kaw lake. Glad you had a chance to check it out. So many lakes in Oklahoma, and so few good campgrounds, sad.

Mark and Ginger said Twin Bridges is a nice campground, maybe they will chime in and post some pics and more info.

Cool, thanks for the addition! I think at a campground I would prefer good bathroom facilities and wouldn't mind more rural looking sites at all. To me that would actually add to the camping experience. I wish I could pull my teardrop into a tent only site! I wouldn't mind bringing it in on a dolly too! Well.. depending on the grade of the land!
