LCGIII anyone there earlier in the week?

Postby cccamper » Thu Jul 24, 2008 9:34 am

hi!
robert and i figure if we pay around $200/gas to go to Louisiana then we should enjoy being OUT!

i paid for the site for fri, sat, and sun nights. but we should go a day or two ealier i think. then we could set up camp with no one, or not many, to watch us fumble poles and lines and try to figure what the heck we are doing! :)

what do you say, do you go early and if so would you recommend. we could stop at Petit Jean instead. photos of that look pretty wonderful.

:QM :QM

Question - if a group of cattle is a herd, a group of quail a covey; a group of puppies is a litter; a group of geese is a gaggle; a group of dysfunctionals is a family (robert just told me to put that in)
well then.... is a group of Teardrops a Pool?

so.... Louisiana Cypress Pool III.... :) it sounds so refreshing...

this is going to be the first time in 3 years i'll really wish i could drink a

elizabeth aka e ... actually my name has always been "e" to family and close friends. now people feel weird about ... 'too short'. that's unfair i think. people have always asked "doesn't anyone call you liz?" and the IMMEDIATE reply is "they only do it ONCE". don't even go there.

funny thing, to save time MJ typed "E'beth" yesterday. my dad used to call me that. that and "spitfire".

 Somebody sounds excited about LCGII!

Its a 9 hour drive for us so my Dad and I will be staying a whole week. I figured, like you, to make a vacation out of it. We will be there Thursday the 23 to Thursday the 30th.

Lake Bistineau State Park is so beautiful and such a nice clean campground that it is well worth staying and relaxing there.

I think other folks are staying a few extra days also. Please join us!

Looking forward to meeting you and Robert.

PS...I think "e" is a cool name

E, I didn't doit to save time, I did it because I am lazy!!! :D  ;) ...Marlene(aka the poor girl) and I will be there on Thursday and I believe a few others as well...we will be staying thru most of the next week...as will others...I think MaryK and TonyJ and probably another one or two will be there...so comeon down early and stay late...swim with the gators, talk to the owls and just have a really relaxin' time...

p.s. the campground at PG is not all that much to look at but the lodge and overlooks around it are very scenic...depending on the route taken, Devil's Den, Magazine Mt and ESPECIALLY Queen Whilamena(SP?) are very nice spots as well...oh yeah, the Hot Springs/Lake Ouachita area is very nice as well.......

I am scheduled off on that previous Wednesday, and will likely go halfway or sumthin on Tuesday night, and roll into LCG III midday Wednesday.

A group of Teardroppers is usually called a "gathering" , but in the south we call it a "Party!" or a "family"

E, and Robert .... do not even think twice about fumbling with canopies or poles.... you will get nothing but helpers as soon as you pull in.
I have had wonderful guys help me back up (I can do great now!) and help pulling out the canopy or taking things down.

OH and also about those MS lesions,.... I have that too , luckily it's non progressive but if a stumble a little or loose my balance a little I can blame it on the MS unless I have one of Tony's margarita's or Marlene's little reisling wine bottles in my hand!!! haha
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

ok, afterwards, too. i'm going to make extended reservations but not paying like i did for the weekend. i'm really sorry i did that because LA St Parks honor the Nat'l Park Access card and didn't know. Half price for camping.

mary k that photo is beautiful. i'm excited. it is frankly pathetic. nothing COOL about me!   starting to remind myself of a character on a sitcom. when she walks by they roll their eyes.

fortunately or unfortunately - one of our favorite lines is "Frankly my dear, I don't give a rat's....." :relaxing: roll away or- we can say - laissez les bon temps rouler.

I have Thursday thru Saturday reserved at LCG III. Last year I made the trip down thru Oklahoma but I'll probably go down through Missouri and Arkansas this time. I'm thinking that my stop over, Wednesday night, will be at Queen Wlhelmina State Park. I've heard lots of people talk about how nice it is. Haven't decided where my stop over on the way back will be for Sunday night but I'm going to check out the places madjack mentioned.

Well that's the plan so far but if I see a gathering coming together at another location I'll probably change my plans and go there. :D

How far is everyone driving to get to LCG? Like in hours and miles? It would take me probably 15 hours. A long, long drive. Not to mention at least $350 in gas round trip (probably more). I am on the fence about making that drive alone.

Using Streets and Trips straight through would be 10 Hours 54 Minutes and 663 miles, 1 way. With a stop off it will be 11 Hours 20 Minutes and 596.8 miles. Less miles with the stop but takes longer because I'll be off the main highways. My average MPG is 17 and if gas stays at $4 it'll be $312 + for the round trip. IMO a small price to pay.

The campground at Queen Whilamena is nothing special but sitting on the porch at the lodge, inna rocker and looking out over the valley is a view not too be missed and of course, eating at the lodge is HIGHLY recommended...the main draw there is driving the 40+mi Talimena Trail back into(or from) Oklahoma...for a really scenic drive, checkout AR Hwy 7 that runs all the N/S thru the state...Magazine Mt, is the highest point in the state and once again, the campground is not the prettiest but the brand new multimillion dollar lodge is extremely impressive.....

Beccca, a long drive to be sure and I understand your reluctance to drive it alone...BUT, we would love to have ya join us and besides, were else would you be able to meet/party/have fun with so many at one time......

p.s. holler at Steve(or Woody) and tell 'em that he and his lady need to come along with ya for traveling compainions...MJ

500 miles. that's a long way for first try at camping with The Teardroppers Gang, however, this group seems like it might be worth it. there must be a certain ratio of crazy to sane for us to not draw undo attention to ourselves. also that there are at least a few who once in a while hear us speak and understand the language. DRY... very dry..

mapquest said way fewer hours for the drive than it will take us. robert has to get out and walk and smoke every hour or so. 8) (hope he doesn't read this)

we could have gone to IRG, and stopped by the Bay to see my brother. but it would have cost more money than i can justify spending.

something interesting about missouri... kinda schizo... it adjoins states that are 1) South Central, 2) North hmmm whatever, 3)Midwest 4) Southeast

e :relaxing:

I know I have about a 6 hour drive, then gas / potty stops, etc.
I'm not even going to think about the gas costs because it would not make a difference... this is too good of group of friends and campers and I wouldn't even think of missing it.

Relaxing, but laughing and fun, and busy , busy cooking but wait - MJ and his pretty boys do the hardest part of that. I personally didn't do so much cooking .

I don't know what gas price has been elsewhere lately, like near FL or LA but here in central Oklahoma , this past week has been $3.55 and $3.61... yes, with a lil bit of ethanol....

COME FOR THE PARTY !!!! You WON"T be sorry !!!!!

Ps..... I prefer maps.google.com and it says for me = 415 miles.

I before have driven east to Henryetta, then turnpike all the way to Paris, TX and then over thru Shreveport.

I'm up for meeting up with anybody on the way, depending on your route and time.

E and Robert.... you'll have others coming from Missouri so see what they think. or caravan.

Robert's not a caravan kind of guy. He moves to the beat of his own drummer. :) He's the only one who can hear the thing, too.
