Cindy and I will leave Ennis as soon as school is out on Friday. We've also been thinking about horror movies Friday and Saturday nights. I've already got Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and Creature from the Black Lagoon. We've also got a new projector we've been wanting to try out.

Not real sure how anything could be coordinated because of the distance, but we plan to leave San Antonio Friday morning. We'll be going up 281, cross over at Burnet to Georgetown, then up 35 to 20 East.

gathering place

Postby starleen2 » Thu Sep 13, 2007 8:08 pm

For those in East Texas who are coming up Hwy 59, you are more than welcome to stage at our church parking lot. (we live in the house behind the church.) We are conveniently located on Hwy 59 N. 2.5 miles from the Carthage loop and have a very large paved parking lot along with restroom facilities. We made the trip to the campsite using US 79 ( 78 miles point to point) to Shreveport and the roads are excellent. Anyone from the Houston area, if you’re coming up 59 N, stop on by. We can gather and head on over. Just need to settle on a time.

Just musing. 79 N meet I-20 at Greenwood – there are two large truck stops at this location( Luv's & ?? - go past em’ all the time – but will investigate) perhaps if we can get a time set to meet at this point – those from East Texas, N Texas, Dallas/Ft. Worth and those on I-20 can meet up?? This will place you right outside of Shreveport and then travel from there to the I-220 bypass?? It takes us less than 40 minutes to get to this point from Carthage and a straight shot. Feel free to contact us for more info.

We can take that route since we live a couple miles from US79. But knowing us, we will be lucky if we even leave the house by noon.

I still haven't decided our route, it'll most likely depend on when we leave. Last time we took interstates tha whole way, I-35 to I-20. On the way back we took I-20 then south on 259 thru Kilgore to US79, then 79 all the way home.

We are planning to get to the Lake Bistineau Park on Thursday. Our route cross country from Eureka is not yet set but in general we are planning to go across hiway 50 in Nevada then I70 across Utah to Colorado. Then sort of southwest across Colorado to Kansas. On to Oklahoma or Missouri then south to Arkansas and on to Louisiana. As we get closer to the LGC2 we would be happy to convoy in with those folfs going to be arriving on Thursday.

Have you tried driving up the smaller highways West of I-35 to Hillsboro? It isn't any faster, but it is a much nicer drive. I-35 (Nafta Highway) has turned into too much of a truck route for my comfort.

The furthur people have to go to meet up, the harder it is to do. I'd love to meet up with folks, but don't know if I can time it to be at a truck stop near Shreveport at a specific time.

I figured some of the Austin/San Antonio people might convoy, and the DFW folks would do another convoy.

It sounds like we are all planning to leave at different times. I guess alot depends on what days people took off from work.

We may be too spread out, too.

Casey,

You are right about IH35, but from here to the LCG is an 8 hour drive, so I want to go the fastest way. Last year we went the back highway from Waco to Tyler and it was a lot slower.

AuntiM, I don't know exactly where ya live but the 2 choices would be to goto Ft Smith Ar and head straight down US71 to Shreveport, where you will hit the I-220 bypass going East to I-20 and the Doyline exit...if you do come down thru Little Rock, take US 167 to Ruston La and catch I-20 West...

To anyone coming from Texas, into Shreveport on I-20, take the !-220 bypass and avoid(at all costs) going thru downtown Shreveport/Bossier City, where the hiway is a buggerbear and somewhat scary...(

Jack You have it right about the different ways down from MO. Instead of US71 I would do the following I will go west from Fort Smith to US-59 and follow it to I-30 then US71 to Shreveport then I-20 and the 220 bypass then to the park to the park. I have a new toy a talking laptop GPS. I can even talk back and ask it to say direction again.
Here is a LINKY.

P.S. I know that is all I need is a talking Parrot Laptop to tell me all the wrong turns I make  . I have tried it out and it works great if you get off track or around construction. Now what will they thinks of.

Okay those in OKLAHOMA or coming thru (dguff, Pam, sdtripper, etc) I'm near OKC and me and Victor Star are talking about where a meet up place might be for Thursday a.m.

Any other Tulsa-area folks or Kansas folks (pauld3 honeymooners) leaving Thursday?

We would be happy to meet somewhere in the Oklahoma City area on Thursday morning for a run down to the LCG. Just let me know and we will be there.

2 weeks away! Julie mentioned Lake Tenkiller as a meeting/stop over location. It looks like a good place to me and will break my drive up into 2 moderate days driving. Any other ideas?
