OK Everybody, April 9-10 it is! 8)

That gives everyone two months to finish their builds.

Count me in Steve. I'll be pulling something that resembles a teardrop.

I've got a trailer and a floor so far.

I'm planning on it also, even if I can't fish the way I want to. ;)

It would be really good if we could have a group of reserved sites together.

One question, I looked on the site but it didn't say, are there showers?

SteveH - Yup, there are showers/restrooms in our main camping loop where we'd be. They are very nice, and very clean. The park is fairly new (1988) and we try our best to keep it looking that way. Our lead ranger does a fantastic job out there, and he takes a lot of pride in his work.

3 showers, 1 urinal, and 3 restroom stalls in the mens side. The ladies has 3 showers and 4 restroom stalls. I do my outdoor talks/programs at the amphitheater behind the restroom area. It would be a great place for a teardrop slide show too.

I'd like to make a suggestion...I'd like to have this open to small trailers as well - I don't think it needs to be a teardrop only outing. I would like everyone who owns, buying, builds, is building, is contemplating building/buying, or just curious, would be included. I hope everyone would be ok with that?

April 9 and 10 is now on the calendar.

Yes please, Let's include anyone who would like to join us.

Let us know if you're able to pre-reserve spaces. We'll probably want to come in on Friday, especially if we're still tenting.

We're not snobs

Postby KZ76017 » Tue Feb 08, 2005 5:41 am

Sure Steve, anyone can come. Are there really teardrop snobs that would only want teardrops in the area? If there are they must not be Texans!
Besides, like their accents will change with time, after a while we'll get them thinking our way anyhow.

count me in.....

Postby GeorgeT » Tue Feb 08, 2005 7:29 pm

Wife says I can go......she uh...insists. :D so count me in! Today I brought home all the last materials to finish my build...I hope. I will have to stay at it to finish in time, but looks doable. Would be nice if it could be arranged so's we can all camp alongside one another. Delorme map showed about a 207 mile trip from my place in Austin to the park. Lookin' forward to it. BTW glad non-traditional designs are welcome! :shake hands:

Hi everyone,

Ok, I spoke with the boss, and he can't give us any price breaks because that's one of our busiest times of the year. Rates are: site-$14, and $2 per person per night. Of course if you have a Texas Parks Annual Parks Pass that will waive the overnight fees. He did say that we are welcome to double up (2 teardrops per site) if we'd like. That would save a little money if you choose to work it that route.

We cannot reserve a block of sites because Texas Parks only guarantees a site, not a location. I will get out first thing Friday morning and block off as many sites as close together as I can. This should keep us all close together.

I'm going to hold about 20 sites for the event. If you have a strong hunch that you are going to come, or would like to guarantee a site - then please email me, or respond here.

My work email is [email protected]
My home email is [email protected]

You will need to pay when you arrive. Please don't call the park for reservations, unless you'd like to make a separate reservation from the Teardrop group.

I also placed a notice in the Texas Parks magazine so that's more advertising for the event. I will also add to purtiscreek.com to include more information about the event, site availabilities, etc.

Laredo - We're east of Waco, about an hour. We're 20 minutes north of Athens. We're 1 hour south of Dallas.

madjack - We have a Friends group that provides firewood. We accept donations ($3 for a stack of wood) for the firewood at the Park Hosts site near the restrooms. As for the pot luck, it's up to everyone. I'm game.

Any other ideas/suggestions?

Texas State Parks Pass

Postby KZ76017 » Thu Feb 10, 2005 12:48 am

Steve

Steve, I suppose I can buy the parks pass there at the park right? If I'm going to be camping much this year and since I'm building a teardrop, I certainly hope to be doing just that, then it would be a good idea to buy the
Texas State Parks Pass since it is only $60.00 and is valid for twelve months from the time of purchase.

13. What discounts and promotions are available for Texas State Parks Pass members?
Members are eligible for many special discounts, including individual park discounts on camping, lodging, park store merchandise and equipment rentals. New discounts and promotions will be offered on an ongoing basis. Members will also receive coupons in the mailing with their official membership card, such as 50 percent off camping and 10 percent off State Park Store merchandise.

What's the discount for day fishing rate with that card?

Are there BBQ grills at the park? I can do some Fajitas! HEB (grocery chain) has great ones.

KZ76017 - There is no discount for day use. What that card does is waives your entrance fee and everyone in the vehicle with you. It will get up to 15 people in for free (assuming you can fit that many in your car). Our entrance fee is $2 per person. Some parks (Cedar Hill in Dallas is $5 per person) charge more. If you have that card, you just show it to us, and go in the park. It also waives the overnight fees if you want to camp. You'd still need to pay the flat site fee for overnight. Also, since our lake is completely within the state park boundries, you don't have to have a fishing liscense this year. Everyone can fish for free. If you do a lot of camping, it can really save you some money. If you go only a few times a year, it's probably cheaper just to pay your day use fees. You can buy them at any state park, or you can buy them here and support us directly. :)

asianflava - All campsites have a fire ring/grill. We also have a portable grill on a trailer that our manager would let us use. You a grill master?

Benroy McFull will be there with bells on. Maybe not hatch or siding or trim or fenders, but bells for sure. I can certainly handle bells, maybe.
