He's had a whole year by then to finish his TD, so it should be getting close by the time LCG III comes around. All but the finishing touches. :R

This is in the works, but it will be different this year. We really want to avoid having campers bring things to give away. We want to get businesses to donate to the drawing. And, we NEED to cut out the duplicates. Two hours of door prizes is too much.

If anyone owns a business, and wants to donate, PLEASE tell me or Julie (Okie-jewel). PLEASE, don't just show up with something. We want to be more organized this time, and give out lots of good stuff in a reasonable amount of time.

I suspect this post will be ignored, but I hope it's not.

Oh, Okie-Girl with the Jewell box will be head-honcho this year. MaryK is helping with name tags.

Yeah, me and CD have 'talked' about it ... and I'm giving it thought and was going to consult with the oh great MJ since it's his party .... so a decision will be made.
IN THE MEANTIME .... like CD said, PM me if you have an idea.

Thanks

Jules

Just to make sure I understand this door prize thing.

If I go out and buy something for the door prize, then your not interested in having that as a door prize because a business didn't donate it.

And what's this about taking too long to give out door prizes. Your in a hurry, your going some place. No one is forcing anyone to stay for the drawings.

Bob, CD can correct me if I am wrong but I don't think he intended it that way...he is working on getting swag from corporate donors and doesn't want anyone to feel in any way obligated towards making a donation...as far as time, I didn't feel it took all that long last time, but I guess if you are the one standing in the "spotlight" it must get hot :D ;) ....we may havvta find a fast talker to get 'er done quicker   ...I am sure any donations will be gladly and appreciatively accepted..ESPECIALLY BY THE WINNERS!!!!!!!!!

p.s. anyone making a donation to the door prizes can help out by being sure to contact Julie or CD ahead of time and letting them know what it is, so they can organize ahead of time a little better............MJ

Basically, last year I got several PMs asking me if we were all supposed to bring something for the prize drawing. Quite a few people thought it was a requirement to bring a gift for the drawing. Others asked how much they were supposed to spend, because they didn't have a lot of money to spare.

Some folks who didn't bring stuff to LCG II asked me if they were supposed to. They saw others giving stuff and felt like they should have.

Also, since I worked for a magazine, I had access to corporate PR people who were glad to give us some cool stuff -- some of it pretty expensive. That's how I've always done drawings in the past, so I did what I always did.

Another thing MaryK and I didn't expect were the number of things that showed up at the gathering, right before the drawing, that we did not expect. We had to try to organize the drawing on the spot. We also had a few items that we had six copies of, and a few people brought stuff leftover from their builds -- some things we had no idea what they were.

Toward the end of the drawing, I was shouting over a crowd of people who were chatting among themselves -- probably bored from the lengthy process. And, we were giving things out in the dark that nobody could see.

Now, I'm not the door-prize Czar, so if people want to do this a different way, then we can change it.

Folks need to speak up now, though. Once Julie and I start organizing and gathering, we will do it how we feel we can best do it.

If you guys want to open up the drawing to gifts by campers, my only suggestion would be that we make it VERY clear that this is voluntary, and NOBODY should feel in any way obligated to donate. Some folks will spend a lot on gas and supplies just to be at LCG III, and we ALL pitch in on the pot-luck supper, so I wouldn't want anyone to think they need to buy something for the door prize.

Also, PLEASE tell Julie or me what you plan to bring so we know what to expect.

One other suggestion would be to limit particular items to one, or at the most three, of one thing.

CD

BTW, is there a way we can let people give build leftovers away other than the door prize? Maybe a Bulletin board where folks can post up what they have to give or swap?

Door prizes should be things that just about anyone can use. A spare set of tail-lights is only a good prize if you happen to need them. ;)
