State parks in Texas are not site specific – so if you would please PM me with your confirmation number and name – I will pick up the sites when we arrive on Thursday so we can all be together.

Just for my own curiosity, why would it change to reserving online vs. via the res center once a few are interested?

My typo - just call the reservation center - the online reservation is not very accurate. For Texas parks, I always call the reservation center and save the reservation fee usually charged for online reservations. Sorry for the confusion about that Thomas

Okaaa, this being our first time out for TD camping ( or any camping for that matter)we'll be stumbling in the dark. My better half and I will be making the gathering on the 16th and 17th of April and probably heading back home on Sunday. And after seeing some of the TD's that some have made? It'll be like a cub scout trying to fit in with a bunch of Eagle Scouts, lol. Anyway , looking forward to visiting and seeing everyones TD's so I can get some hits and maybe some help on finishing mine up. Comformation number is #1156241, under JT Bond.
Looking foreward to seeing you all there.

fire wood

Postby J.T. » Sat Mar 20, 2010 5:16 pm

While I'm thinking about it, does anyone know if the camp ground allows open fires? Do they use fire rings? or do you have to use gas or propane stoves? Reason I'm asking is I've got a bit of pecan wood I wanted to bring to burn and cook with.

Go ahead and bring it - they have fire rings at every site. You can bring what ever stove you wish to use

I just found out that I could get free tickets to Texas Motor Speedway, but I already have reservations here, I choose here! It is fun camping out at the speedway too, so that is on my list for Nov.

I don't have any big logs yet but I hope to rectify that situation next weekend. I just came back from my sisters and they had this truckload (not a load in a truck CD hehe ;) ) of small limbs and small logs. Should be nice for getting a big fire going.

I'll be sure to have the firewood covered this time tho since I sometimes slack on the food.

I was thinking that most of the fire wood I'll be bringing is split from a tree that was about 36 inches across, had to split it with my chainsaw into 4 pieces just to be able to split it with my log splitter and even then it was a boogerbear. It should make a good fire for cooking :Flippin Burger: seeing as it was from a pecan tree that was blown down by Ike. And as it is? I've still got more hard wood to burn than I can shake a stick at. :?
I used some of it today to cook country style ribs for a family get together two family packs of ribs and some links. Oh well, can hardly wait till the weekend.
