Might be an idea. Guess, I'll have to look up the article or the Scenic 7. Might as well make a good drive out of it.

That issue is not out, yet. It is being printed right now.

Anyone who wants to read it, send me an email and I'll email back a PDF of the Article on "Arkansas' Scenic 7 Byway."

...7 is a nice drive BUT it goes straight thru Hot Springs which really sucks...a better route may be upto Benton and jump off to the park...we are coming up thru the woods and will cross I30 at Benton as we head to the park Friday....

...yea, I played with Google maps and that was the shortest route up there for me and when I asked my partner, he had run that route about a year ago on his motorcycle and said as best as he could remember it was a good route...although he said he was running 90 most of the way, chasing a girl onna bike in front of him, so he probably doesn't remember it real well

Funny thing today. Charles took the "slide out" to our friends RV dealership to have them wire up tail lights etc. I went by to pick it up and met "Eddie Smelley". OK I know you don't know who Eddie Smelley is but you will by Friday. I knew someone else in Lufkin had a teardrop, yellow to be exact, but had never seen it or met the owner. Well I met him today at the RV dealership. They will be at Petit Jean joining all of us. He reads the forum all of the time but is not a "member". It sounds like he has a vintage computer and so he just reads the threads. He said he will be in site #46. I hoped we were going to have someone to caravan with but he is leaving Thursday morning and we are going to try to leave Thursday evening. I tried to talk him into waiting but he wouldn't.
OH well, just wanted to let everyone now that there will be one more teardrop joining us.
See you all at Petit Jean.
Linda

Glenn & Earl, SH 7 from Arkadelphia to SH 154 at Centerville is a great scenic hwy. MJ's right tho 'bout gettin' thru Hot Springs. You can take the bypass around HS but even it is kinda a PITA & there's still a lotta congestion coming into HS & going out thru HS Village on SH 7 north. Pretty drive tho  .

If you do go on to Little Rock, you'll exit off I-30 onto I-430 (I-630 is the crosstown expwy between I-30/I-430). Think it's 'bout 11mi from I-30 to I-40 on 430. Don't believe there's any construction anywhere on the route 'cept maybe a little around Conway. Another nice scenic drive is SH 5 from Benton, then SH 9 to Oppelo, then SH 154 to PJ. A little less 2-lane distance but still pretty steep/curvy in places. See my post to Linda & MJ.

Linda, You'll want to take the second Benton Exit (#117) then go back across the freeway. You'll be on SH 5 (stay in the left lane after you cross the freeway, the right lane goes back to I-30 west) & it's about 13mi to jct SH 9 at Crows. Turn right on #9 & be prepared for some nice winding road (you'll have already had a little bit on 5 ;) ) & a few fairly steep hills. SH 154 from Oppelo to PJ is a good road but makes a sharp left turn just as you begin the climb up the mountain. Nothin' the Tundra won't handle tho & the climb tho steep, is only 'bout a mile & then nuthin' but flat (weellll, almost) ground coupl'a miles to the c/g.

MJ, sounds like you'll be comin' into Benton on SH 35. If so, 35 kinda turns into SH 5 bout where you cross the freeway (or maybe a coupl'a blocks before (near KFC & Walgreens). You'll wanta get in the left lane (looks more like a turn lane) at the KFC, & facing Walgreens at the traffic light. Go straight across (toward Walgreens) & bear left & it's only a couple or three blocks to the freeway crossing.

Y'all have a safe trip, see ya at the mountain

Thanks Harvey. I will probably do 7 anyway. I've been to HS several times, and it doesn't bother me.I know there are lots of traffic lights, but I want to check out Scenic 7. I hate trips that are all interstate highway. I'll take a little longer, if needed, just to drive some nice, winding blacktop.

Yep, agree with ya 100%, that's why we're takin' #9 'stead of I-30/40

Harvey you are thinking the same way. That is why I'm going the route I picked. The mapping programs shows a time for the road but it is wrong. I know I have timed the drive myself. Also I like to see some country while atleast going ( if not in a hurry or running late ).

Everyone be safe and have a good travel to PJ this weekend.

 :applause:
