I dont know where to buy them but........you could double up 1x2's to get a 2x2. If you find out where to buy them, let us know. There are lots of people here from the DFW area, someone should know.

Duck Daddy,

You can use poplar instead and gluing 1 x 2 together will also work to get the 2 x 2. Oak is not the only hardwood you can use though probaly common. The key word to remember is "hardwood" You want to use a hardwood, pine is considered a "softwood". I think you can use pine for the spars except for the hatch but I my preference is to use a hardwood. Poplar happens also to be cheaper to buy than Oak

I used 2X2" pine for all my spars, except the hatch spar, which is a pair of 1X2" poplar doubled up with a plywood bulkhead. Going on two years...so far, all is well.

I used poplar but I didn't use screws. Just brads and polyurethane caulk. The only place my spars saw screws are where the hatch hinge is.

DuckDaddy,

I used Cedar spars (Home Depot) and I didn't have a problem finding straight ones. They cost a little more though. They are very strong and look great. Of course I did not plan to cover them up, so I got the benefit of their beauty.

BTW: A good friend bought me a Lowe's gift card as an early birthday present, so I must be a Teardropper....I got some Lavendar hand lotion and bath beads as well.
