Playing in the campfire is half the fun at campouts. This weekend we learned that a simple thing like chewing gum creates a flamable gas when heated. Watch the follow sequence of photos. It was pretty neat.

Yeah, but you don't chew garden hose. We were a wee bit surprised when this gaseous fire came out of the bottle from a piece of gum.

Something to think about next time you pop a stick in your mouth.

Now was that chewed or unchewed?

Inquiring minds want to know.

George,
We did it both ways with the same result. The sequence shown was on stick of gum rolled up and put in a hot wine bottle.

CD, I guess it depends on who was chewing on it before it went in the bottle.

You heard what? Heck, I wasn't even at Ray Roberts this weekend, when that conversation take place? Refreshments will be provided, no doubt about it! I sure know I won't be stopping you from taking one. Of course, I've heard that a hot flame and cold beer may not mix that well!

At least this wine bottle gave something to watch. Never heard of putting gum in one before.
