Oklahoma ICE STORM--2009 bump

Postby oklahomajewel » Tue Dec 11, 2007 2:32 pm

Well, the storm came in , I'm at work right now but have not had power at home since Sunday night.
Trees are down EVERYWHERE and I've taken pictures and will post some later. The one tree in my front hard has broken big limbs everywhere and everything else is ice covered. Some streets are unpassable because of limgs. It's like after a tornado, but all ice covered.

I've heard it could be as much as 7 days for the power to come back on. Scott (my 19 yr old has power at his apt so I'll go there tonite) and a friend or two does too . Evan (my 18 yr old), has been staying with me while his dad and the wife and new baby went to one of her friend's house.

It's a day by day thing .... and I keep saying "It could be worse" ... it could always be worse!!! After heater problems last week though, I'm absolutely SICK of being COLD !!!!

But I'm so grateful for the raffle prize I got a LCG - a big Mag Lite and the Coleman LED Lantern I got in the Chinese gift exchange last weekend -- they've both come in plenty handy lately !!!!! :snowstorm:

Julie,
Really sorry to see how hard you guys were hit down there. We got a little last night and today but nothing like you guys. Look at the bright side, you can keep your wine chilled on the front porch. By the way, whats a Chinese gift exchange?

Take care Julie. We're getting it today but not near as much as you got down there. Temps are staying right at freezing so not all of it is turning to ice. Hope that you get power back soon.

On the tv in the breakroom (I'm at work) they said that statewide we have 635,000 homes without power -- more than ever.
Some kind of support is coming in from New Mexico and Austin , thanks neighbors!

Chinese gift exchange same as dirty Santa.

Thanks for everybody... the trees started popping like fireworks and falling when they already had an inch of ice , then the freezing rain started and froze on top of that. Streets aren't too bad, it's been raining all day now.

JULIE, DID YOU TURN OFF YOUR WATER?

Sorry to "yell" but wanted to make sure you heard me.

With no heat, you will need to turn off the water, and drain the pipes -- turn on faucets down low, like first floor bathtubs to let water out, and up high, like upstairs sinks to let air in.

Saw the pictures on the news. Look horrible. I'll stop bitchin' about it being a chilly 81 degrees down here, although a front blows in tomorrow that is supposed to lower the temp to 65. I don't know how we'll survive down here.

Stay warm, Julie (and everyone else in the icy states).
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Well Julie, I really wanted that LED lantern and was disappointed when you stole it from me. But now I'm glad you have it, you obviously need it more than I do. I hope your power is on soon.

I just got off the phone with my brother in Tulsa, they survived the storm but they still have no power yet. The shop where he works is back up and running so he made it back to work today. I hope they can get you all back online for electricity soon.
