Need some help?

Postby Cindy » Sat Apr 12, 2008 8:04 am

Scotty,
Thank you for starting this thread. Let me help out here. We need to make our reservations for Inks Lake for November 14-16. But, we can't do anything else about it till the end of October.
Alas, we can't choose where we camp at Inks lake but Scotty or somebody else can let them know how many we have coming.
Scotty, somebody in the area will surely step up to help out with this one when the time comes.

HEY >>>> >>> >>>> The Oklahoma Jewel Box will very very very likely make this one !! My neice in the Austin area is getting married on Nov 15th, I'm not "in" the wedding party , so camping is okay.

I'll know more as it gets closer .

I wish I knew, we're in Atlanta (for now) but there is a possibility that this may be temporary.

Rocky & Mel

Postby Cindy » Fri Apr 18, 2008 6:28 am

Hey, Rocky, are there any tears in the South East section? Maybe you could build them up and then we could all have a huge gathering. Hey, wait! If the South got all together, that could really ROCK! Just a thought but the South got in trouble for that kind of thinking once before. . . . .

Inks Lake

Postby Jim T » Wed Jun 04, 2008 9:45 am

I have never been to Inks Lake, but I know with other Texas State Parks, even though you cannot officially reserve certain spots, that the rangers at the park have always worked with me on campsite location. Probably if we call them with a number of confirmed reservations, we can all get in one group. What type of site does everyone usually reserve? Is it a typical RV site, or the tent camping area?

Not at Inks. Last year SteveH was at the ranger station at 8am with a list of paid campers to try to get everyone as close as possible. The Boy Scouts and another group were in front of him and it was first come/first served on the day of check-in.

What to reserve

Postby Cindy » Wed Jun 04, 2008 10:23 am

Tony, we always reserve a regular RV site and then pay the whole amount. That way who ever is there first can pick them up. That is the only way we have figured out to get together. Sometimes, we can talk to the rangers and get them to put us together based on how many are prepaid if we have the first and last name that the site it reserved in.

Cindy, the main thing I was pointing out is that the rangers will let us group together, but that can only be set up at first arrival (1st person on the first day) since the spaces are first come, first choice, and not ahead of time like we can do when we use campgrounds that let us reserve specific sites.

That was a confusing explanation. :?

Nobody said life would be easy.

Postby Cindy » Wed Jun 04, 2008 3:15 pm

Oh, yeah. Nobody ever said life in Texas state parks is easy. We have been doing it that way all along. That is really the reason we haven't had much camping in Texas. It is so difficult to get all together. My hat is always off to the coordinators who get us all together because it is not easy to do in Texas. 8)

Inks Lake

Postby Jim T » Thu Jun 05, 2008 8:09 am

I guess it is different at the more popular parks. In the past, when I have camped at the smaller parks (Cooper Lake, McKinney Falls, ect) that I had a choice of how close I was to the showers, what section I was in, did I want to be close to the river, ect. I can see how if you worked in a popular park like Inks Lake, that allowing people to pick and choose ahead of time would be a legistical nightmare! :? I will go ahead and reserve an RV site in advance. :D

Oh no

Postby Cindy » Thu Jun 05, 2008 10:15 am

Oh, no, Jim. They always let us pick where we want to be when it is just us. It is just a nightmare trying to get sometimes as many as 20 spaces close together. Even getting 5 together is hard if they don't know ahead of time. Having a list of names and registrations helps about a month out if we have somebody to go there and talk face to face with them. They are great people but the system just isn't set up for groups - unless you are the boy scouts and then. . . . well, don't get me started on the boy scouts.
