Where'd the South Central go ????

Postby oklahomajewel » Sun Jun 01, 2008 8:22 am

Hey y'all.... I know I haven't piped in much lately either. Busy in the past month with one son's H.S. graduation , then trip this past week to GA to see the other son graduate basic training and off to VA for another 4 weeks.

The Jewel Box is in an undisclosed location and I'm starting to miss her a little bit !!! But it's for a good (bling bling) reason.

I'm sure the gas prices are killing some of our camping trips too ... I don't blame you! I can't consider PJ after the $$$$ spent last week's trip , and gas here has been about $3.88/gal and I also have to pay a speeding ticket this week ! *#$&!!

I'm trying to consider a couple of camping spots within an hour or two of OKC . Are y'all doing the same thing?

If nothing else, I hope to see you all at the big 'family' reunion at the LCG and then at Inks Lake in November if you're still doing that. My neice is getting married in Austin at that time so I'll definitely be in town.

Hugs to everybody ... I miss ya !!!

HI Julie, Happy you made it back. Did you fly? I guess I got lost in the info maze.

We are planning a trip soon but put bunches of money in the kitchen. Poor Mike needs a rest.

I'm not South Central; but close enough to check what going on in the region. I'm just across the big muddy thing that separates the regions. Also I don't post a lot unless I really have something to say that fits the topic. "Tis better to remain silent and be thought the fool, than to speak and remove all doubt!!".

I empathize about the "Spin the wheel daily" to see the price of gas. I just got back from a trip to the Big Easy for my daughters college graduation. Even though I haven't started the build on my TD yet, I hope to make PJ with my tent. (Google maps says it's only about 3 1/2 hours away!!) Sorry you won't be there; but hopefully I can get some good tips and hints on building from those who do attend.

We haven't done any camping. Been to busy cleaning up the place from all the broken limbs from past storms. Bought some lumber for the flooring of the new camper yesterday. Will start on putting that together today. Trying to get this built for LCG III.

Yes I understand about life happening while we'd rather be camping... it's all that being an adult and responsibility stuff sometimes... geez! hahahahaha

I did get a juicy check from Allstate for hail damage on my car from a couple of weeks ago, but the car is an 01 Honda Accord with 150K miles so I might not get all that fixed. Then yesterday found out 2 of my neighbors are getting new shingles, so I'll be calling insurance again to check mine.

When I go to pick up the Jewel in T-Town, I'll likely stop and camp somewhere that weekend too ... hopefully the end of June but my son also comes back from VA at that time, so we'll see . Might be after 4th of July that I finally pick up the teardrop ... so I'm not able to really plan a camping weekend just yet.

Miriam, yes it was actually quicker, easier and cheaper to fly to Columbus, GA instead of driving. I was traveling alone but met some other mothers and wives from a message board out there so that was nice. Scott is in Norfolk, VA now for music training. I swear he's taller, and definitely not a "boy" anymore and he dropped 30 lbs! He looks good !

Fine looking boy!!! You can be proud of him!!! I'm still proud of mine even though he didn't make it through A-school after basic (Navy). Just another stumbling block in his path that we all have to overcome at one time or another.

Hey Julie,
Congrats on getting the guys graduated...............
We haven't been camping since Beavers Bend and we are looking forward to Petit Jean and of course IRG 2.0

Kidney stones and build #4 is keeping Charles busy. He was in the hospital a couple of Saturdays ago and passed a stone. He has surgery Monday to remove a 6mm stone. He has become a kidney stone making machine.
We told the doc we had to get rid of the big one as we don't want it to get in the way of our IRG 2.0 trip.

After Petit Jean I'll be taking our youngest daughter to Fort Gordon Georgia to visit a friend.
Then off to IRG 2.0............

I hope everyone has a good time at the beach gathering in July

I guess I won't get to see the new and improved Jewel box until Beavers Bend 09..................Maybe you'll send me a pic so I won't feel left out.

 :applause: Now that is a nice looking young man Julie. Tell him thanks for us. My niece's husband is stationed near Norfolk. I will have to find where they are specifically.

I was hoping to get to the Quilt show in Tulsa the first week of June. I think I forgot. CAn't remember. Maybe I better check that.

I think it's the most publicized undisclosed location ever. I don't think there's anyone that doesn't know where it is.

We just can't wait to see it finished.

Great looking boy Julie. We've been staying close to home partly due to gas but more because of Trudy's job and my working on my son Matt's house. We sure missed being able to come to Beavers Bend and Cedar Hill and missed you all a bunch but Trudy had to work then. We're still planing and PJ and LCG III but unfortunately they will probably be our only two long distance trips this year.

Congrats on the graduate, Julie you should be extremely proud. From my own past experiences, the smile on his face while standing next to his Drill...well that may not be genuine.

As far as the camping....yes the gas prices are bringing me down. I'm trying to get my tear done (at least campable) in time in time for LCG, but until then, the camping is limited to a few places closer to home.
