Anyone up for a gathering 7-09 in Cloudcroft New Mexico?

I posted this in the "Suggest a gathering" section also but I didn't know how many folks looked there.

Charles and I camped in one of the National Forest camp grounds in Cloudcroft on our way to IRG 2.0 and returning home.

We asked the park host why another campground was closed on the way home and he told us it is a reservation only campground.
Well we enjoy the area so much we thought we would see how many folks would be interested in camping there next summer.

I took a picture from the gate but it didn't turn out very good as it was early and the road was long. There is a big pavillion also. Pit toilets, no electricity and no shower house but we can go up the road about a mile and use the showers at another campground which is only usable during the day as it is solar powered.

It is nice and cool on top of the mountain in July.

I will call and get pricing tomorrow and post any information I get. I will also post the picture if I can lighten it up a little.

Linda, that would be nice...especially since NM is supposed to be in the SCT area...I couldn't commit to something that far in the future but I have heard many nice things about the Cloudcroft area...if you wanna, send me the pic in an email and I will play with it.....

I had to look and see where that is.... just outside Alamogordo , NM and straight north of El Paso TX... I google mapped it and it would be a 10 hr drive from OKC... but sounds like a good vacation with good people !!!
Then maybe Mandy in ALBQ could make it too !!!

Hello TheBizMan.
I knew this location would be good for the folks out your way.
Would love to have the opportunity to meet you.

Julie,
Cloudcroft is a small village at the top of a mountain. Alamagodo is 16 miles down the mountain. It is about 2 hours from El Paso and about 45 minutes from Ruidoso.
Charles would love to move to Cloudcroft when he retires. We had talked about it years ago and talking didn't make anything happen except the price of land is now outrageous.

Like I said, I just wanted to list this consideration. it is a year away.

OMG how did I miss this post? Of course I would love to go but 75.00 a night seems steep to me. I've been up to Mayhill and Weed up there but never Cloud Croft. Let me know when and where.

Mandy,
Don't panic...........the $75 is for the entire campground not per site.
Sparksalot,
Yes it is nice and cool there in the summer. That's why we enjoy camping there in July.

Charles can retire on 6-30-09...........This could be a retirement party....

Hi Linda
Macy and I would love to see you in Cloudcroft. We used to live in Las Cruces, NM about 45 miles from El Paso. This is early but we have placed it on our "really want to" list for next summer. It is only 954 miles one way!
You are right about the prices of land and homes. We lived in New Mexico in
82 to early 84 and considered buying a few acres. Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda!!!

How was the trip to California? Would love to see a bunch more pics of the newest TD.

Put us down as 'tentative' Linda. Been a couple of years since we've seen Lenora's sisters in AZ & she's been wanting to go so maybe we can do it in conjunction with a trip out there
