Yes ... I'm trying to think of a good place, and possibly for the Sept 19 20 21 weekend.

I hope some MO / KC city area folks and AR 's are welcome too

I thought of Oologah , but then was going to see about Table Rock , but never been to that area ... I'm too sleepy right now to look up info on it .

Nic, even if it's not a "gathering" I'll let you know if I get the itch to go camping again too ...

I was Born in Parsons. Never camped in the area but the Crawford State Park over by Pittsburg looks interisting. I've been thinking about driving down and checking it out.

The park custodian at Clinton Lake told me that he vacations at Twin Bridges State Park in Oklahoma. It's in the NE area of the state.

We camp at Crawford a lot but the fishing is lousy. It is a nice park for sure. Twin bridges has a few sites near the water but most are up the hill. A very sharp incline if coming from the South. The North entrance is easy. I was hoping it wouldn't rain this weekend so I could go check out some of the parks near Parsons. :(

If you decide to come down to Twin Bridges or Crawford let us know. Twin bridges is only 30 minutes and Crawford only an hour away.

Well you guys are about to do it to me again! :? I'll be busy/out of town on the 19-21 weekend. Can we make it the next weekend, Sept 26-28 ??Please? If you don't need a lake, you can look at Osage Hills SP. It's a nice out of the way place east of Bartlesville. You can also look at a couple of the smaller lakes in NE OK , like Eucha or Spavinaw. If you want a larger Lake, then we can probally get some spots on Lake Oologah. A friend of mine is a "park host" at Oologah and we can probally get some spots all together. Let me know what ya think. If it's just gotta be the 19-21 then it's OK ,you'll just miss my smilin' face! 8)

If it keeps on raining I might drive down to Parsons/Pittsburg this weekend and check out the camping. I'm always looking for an excuse to go to Chicken Annies.

It doesn't matter to me what weekend it is.

 Crawford Lake is West of Pittsburg and North of Girard. They might let you in for free if you tell them you are scouting for a group thing. They have a group area too but I have never checked it out.

Hey Ron, you might want to check that out. The weather is turning cooler earlier and should be nice for a long time to come.

Twin Bridges is on the north side of Grand Lake, right? and is a state park , so you cannot reserve ahead of time.

Oologah and Skiatook are about 75 and 100 miles from Joplin... closer for me and the Tulsa area folks... but maybe 200 miles from the KC area

I've been told Skiatook has a beautiful campground and lake

I'm up for either weekend. Can you KS and MO folks do some searching about any place there?

I'm at work so can mess around on the net TOO much.

I know that weekend of 26th , there is a big Fin & Feather craft festival near the south end of Lake Tenkiller. Snake Creek is pretty booked up , don't know anything about Chicken Creek... But the weather was GORGEOUS last year.

By the way, we're gonna be rainy all weekend in OKC they say ...

Living just south of Parsons growing up, the ONLY place anyone went was Big Hill lake over by Cherryvale. Its ok for fishing (lots of bass) and skinny on good close together camp sites. Don't know if they have Electric and water at the sites. I know (or at least used to know) that it was the location for the teeny parties. I'm sorry it has just been a few years since I have been there. I enjoy Clinton Lake by Lawrence and Milford Lake close to Burlington. Stockton I hear is nice over Mike and Miriam's way.

Just a few ideas.

:? Oh boy we spent 6 hours scouting the campgrounds near Big Sugar-Elk River in SW Missouri. :( They are geared toward the floating crowd for sure. Only a couple looked good. One was way over commercialized and Had a wild college crowd. And I mean one intoxicated young woman mooned everyone behind her walking to her tent. C And while we were eating above the water in Noel, a girl stripped her bottom off and mooned as she dove under.

Further down the river there is a fairly nice campground with showers. I didn't check them out but Mike said the men"s room wasn't too bad. Not too many electric sites. These are all on the river and the beaches are river rock. The bottoms of the rivers are also rock so good and clean.

This is around the bend looking at the electrical sites. The gravel is part of a very long beach.

Looking at electrical coming in the drive. This is almost beach front on The Elk river.

We didn't get pictures of the other campground in Noel but it was nice. Didn't check out the facilities either. It is across the river from the fancy party campground and not far from the Tysons plant. All of the sites there can be electric.

Pat they are building a new campground in Joplin right out by the Petro truck plaza on #44, and on the river. Supposed to have a 7 acre lake. This was set back with the flood we had. Now they won't be open till next year. We also have another that is closed for the season because of flooding.

Zans is in Joplin but last year he wouldn't promise to reserve for us. If he had an RV come in and want a week we would get bumped. And he didn't treat Trudy and Gary very well either. Maybe he has changed his mind this year. I will check again.

The new camp will be right across from this one. Really nice owner.

I'm heading to Crawford tomorrow. I'll post my opinion and pictures. If I can get to Big Hill, I'll do the same.
