Some of us (me, Nic, Catoosa Grani) are apparently itchin' to camp soon .... how about Apr 17-19 ???? Or May 1-3????
Skiatook is supposed to be great, and can reserve online.
the Damsite at Ft Gibson is a really good campground, and can reserve online.
the Damsite at Lake Spavinaw , Nic likes it , but it's a state park and cannot reserve ahead.
Tenkiller has Snake Creek , Chicken Creek and Cookson Bend, which are bookable online but is that too far south????
Let's talk about the possibilities.... thanks!
ps... Mothers Day Saturday there is a big strawberry festival over at Stillwell that I plan on going to , and camp near Cookson Bend (25 miles to Stilwell)

We've been thinking about April 17-19 at Rocky Point on Lake Ft Gibson. We drive through there but havn't camped there yet. Friends of ours do and like it. We've never been to Skiatook lake, fishing is supposed to be good, camping should be good too. We'll try to join wherever everybody decides.
We're having withdrawls from not making Beavers Bend!

Hey Julie, are you going to miss the canoe thing on Mothers day? I will look up the others and see what Mike thinks.

Well, I would love to come to the canoe Warpony campout but that's a long drive for me , almost 6 hrs -ish.... so I don't think I can do that one... and the extra $$ and gas. ((EDIT: Seriously considering making it !!))
I wanted to go to the strawberry festival and camp at Tenkiller last year on Mom's day weekend, but the weather killed that. So that was my plan for this year, but it's still a little bit iffy.
I just posted this because Nic said that him and Grani were talking about something in the Tulsa/NE Oklahoma area . Grani emailed me and they are already full up for April.
I don't know if I'm starting a 2nd job yet, but worked it before and it's kinda flexible to work around camping.
REO Ron mentioned that a man and his wife , Don ? , that visited us up at Crawford last year almost has his tear done and wants to come camping too .
I just posted this to get a feel for what some ideas are.
PS... Excelsior springs/watkins milll... isn't that near Kansas city? quite a drive for me from OKC ...
what about NW OK

Julie, what about anything in the NW OK area, the NE would be too long of a drive for us. Is there anything nice to the West of you to go camping at. I would love a chance to camp with you again, without going too far for a weekend!
Dana
P.S. are you going to get to make it to ITG 3. We got our reservations, can't wait!

Hey Dana ... I have thought of , but not date wise, something up that way.
Boiling Springs in Woodward is said to be a nice park. Foss Lake kinda by Elk City has a big Christmas in July thing with all the decorations and a boat decorating thing but don't know how crowded that gets.
I'm not planning on ITG this year.

Thanks for mentioning Lake Spavinaw. I stayed there friday night on my way back home to snowy NE Iowa. It is just what I have been looking for as a stop off point for my trips to Durant. I will add it to my list. Nic has good taste for parks. I can imagine how pretty it would be when the trees are all green.
It is in a remote uncommercialised area with twenty five large campsites. I would guess about two thirds are with pads and utilities. Rates are $10 and $18. The Park Host told me that except for holiday weekends there are at least ten sites open every weekend. He also volunteered to let teardrops double up.
If you are more comfortable reserving spots they can be reserved by calling 918-435-8066.

Yes I had a good time with doing the normal grandfather duties like fixing the swing set and filling the sand box and yard work. As far as the new grandson, he is not due for another month so may make another trip sometime in May.

Check with Rickxr2 (above)
Here in Oklahoma City in the middle of the state, we're due for 50% chance of rains for Thursday and Friday... I can't really go camping this weekend anyway .
