We need to schedule some "barn raising" gatherings

Postby caseydog » Sun Nov 15, 2009 7:42 pm

A bunch of us got together to work on Bluebonnet II a while back, and it turned out to be a good time -- and it was cheap.

I wouldn't mind having some more weekends like that. Surely we have some builders in our area who could use some help with their builds, in exchange for us camping in their yards and hosting a pot-luck dinner.

We collectively have some good skills, and good tools. And, building is more fun when you have friends helping. Just don't let DaveL drill holes in anything.

Anyone else thinking what I'm thinking here?

I can always leave the drill at home. I agree, this would be some great fun. That was the best weekend working on the tear that I've had in a long time.

I agree.

My "barn" is partially finished. Can I be first? Oh wait, I guess I need to get the money to buy the parts necessary to finish the build first.

Seriously, this sounds like a fun way to get to know a lot of folks. It would also allow some to get into teardropping without having to purchase a lot of tools (which my wife claims is the the reason I started my build.)

I don't have a "barn", but depending on the insurance company's interpretation of my policy, I may have some drywall repair (from hole in PVC exhaust pipe), roof shingles and PVC roof exhaust work for idle hands .

Only thing is that the ordinance Natzis won't let us park Teardrops on the lawn. I had to pay them $384 for parking my car on my own lawn in the back yard a few years ago! ...bummer, oh well; what can you do?

I'll second the vote for visit to see Bill's build. He's only a short drive - 10-15 minutes - from my house.

I had the chance to see his build just after he and his wife finished the interior walls. Their TTT will set a new high water mark for design, quality and execution.

If anything, we can just sit around drinking adult beverages and watch him work. I'd hate to do something to screw it up.

Come On Down To San Antono!

Postby SATEAR » Thu Nov 19, 2009 8:07 pm

If you guys are serious you can come drive down a few hours and help me finish my TD. I sure could use the help!!! See my album and you can see where I'm at. Just a little more to go  If anyone has a build up in the Dallas area, I would be willing to drive up there to help.

Well, it seems we have a few candidates. They will have to give the  for us to invade their properties with power tools and appetites.

Another candidate is Julie in Oklahoma. She actually need s a "barn," or more accurately a teardrop shed to keep her "Jewelbox" out of the weather.

So, now the question is "when and where" do we go first?

Um, we don't do "a couple of hours."

We campout on your driveway, street or lawn and make a weekend out of it.

We eat your food, drink you beer, camp out in your yard, point out your errors. We're sometimes obnoxious, loud, even preachy at times- but other than that we're good people, right? Who's up?

More than a few hours!!!

Postby SATEAR » Thu Nov 19, 2009 11:07 pm

Sorry, I meant a few hours drive from Dallas area. You are welcome the entire weekend. I can get my father-in-law to make his famous "Menudo" for everyone. We also have my church parking lot a couple of blocks up from us that everyone could park and camp. My driveway will hold about 3 or 4 TD's. We'd have a great time!

I am game for this.

However, I do have to wonder how parishioners will feel when they arrive at church on Sunday morning to find a bunch of hung-over campers.
